Obituary for Walter Wenger from Strawberry Point area

Walter Wenger son of Christian and Caroline Wenger was born May 19 1902 on the family farm near Elgin and died October 9 1962 in Manchester hospital. He married Wilma Steinmetz March 13 1943 and they ran a dry goods and grocery store in Strawberry Point from 1944 until his death. He was survived by his wife seven brothers and three sisters plus nieces nephews and many friends. Card of Thanks from the Wenger family expresses gratitude for sympathy and memorials.

Postville blanked Valley 32 to 0 as Rex Carlson scored on a short run and Don Smith added a 55 yard TD. Valley fumbled for a safety on their own one yard line and Dave Thompson was tackled in the end zone for another. Final score also notes Elkader over Fayette 34 21 and Waukon 7 West Central 6.

Obituary for Otto E Olson of Elgin and Detroit

Otto Earl Olson born February 15 1910 in Elgin son of Ole and Emma Olson. He lived in Clermont and Elgin high school graduate 1928 attended Upper Iowa University. He worked in Detroit in construction and at Ford Protective Police, married there and had daughter Olette Paula. Returned to Elgin 1946 built the Drive In and later married Hazel Ewing Dennison in 1953. They lived in Elgin with daughter Jennifer and son Kim Richard born September 15 1954. He died October 12 at age 52 with survivors including wife Hazel daughters Olette Schultz and Jennifer Hill son Kim and two grandchildren. sisters Ruth Nora Ida Ruby Leona and other family relations. Burial in Elgin Cemetery.

Pleasant Valley Farm Bureau meets for district workshop

The Pleasant Valley Farm Bureau Homemakers met October 12 at Mrs. Clifford Medberry’s home with 20 members and guests. Devotions were led by Mrs. Medberry. Lake Martin demonstrated with a flannel board on Progress of Farm Legislation. District workshop reports covered healthful living, publicizing, reading, and campaign candidate study. Harvest topics and a Flower Arrangement and Drying lesson were presented. Community events include United Nations Day at the Farm Bureau building in Fayette and the annual Farm Bureau meeting Saturday night, Oct. 27.

St Olaf and Gunder Lutheran Parishes Worship Times

St Olaf and Gunder parishes hold worship with Holy Communion on the last Sunday of each month and Sunday School at 10 a.m. Marion Lutheran Church hosts a women’s meeting on the second Thursday at 1 30 p.m. In Norway worship is at 9 a.m with a service first Sunday at the Chapel and other services at the Church. Holy Communion and Sunday School at 10 15 a.m.

Weekend visitors fill Fergus County homes

Mrs Reed Mondz prem hosted visitors while Mr and Mrs Falet hosted Eight sent owners. Mr and Mrs Jon Mratzek joined in Chic gatherings with Mr and Mrs Fissel Larson and others. Mary Beth Pam Kathy and Di ane plus Mr and Mrs Eugene Lehman were coffee guests of the Jack Adrians after a football game. Marie Blunier and Sanaa TL hosted guests, as did Mr and Mrs Louis Boucher and Schup ch. Frieden Sunday afternoon saw Ard Ketelsen and Kirk from Moline visit the Gus Krueger home for the weekend.
