Gerald Schori won the men’s vocal division and Marie Mosby finished second in the women’s division at the Atwater Kent radio program on Friday. Clifford Kit Telson has bought half of Geo Metzger’s inter est in the Christ farm, with Metzger moving to a nearby farm today. Ruth Perry and Haymond Benson wed at the Little Brown church in Nashua. The Social Hour Club met at Mrs Earl Kiple on Oct 7 with fourteen members and two guests Mrs Nelle Reusser and Mrs Wm Howard. After the business session Mrs Clifton Powell read two poems Speak Gently and I Know Something Good About You, while Mrs Archie Howard read The Gusher. A contest was won by Mrs Woodrow Reed as judged by Mrs Virgil Miles. Take away bingo was played and lunch was served. Mrs Glen Little to entertain in November and members are to bring Thanksgiving favors to the next meeting.
A surprise party was held at their home last Wednesday to mark the couple’s 40th wedding anniversary. Guests included John McMillan Conner Herbert Dummermuth Walter Durscher Herbert Haas and Herman Helgerson Harold and DeVere.
Halverson families played a 500 game with high prizes awarded to Mrs. Conner Dummermuth and Herbert Dummermuth. Low prizes went to Mrs. Walter Durscher and DeVere Halverson, with Walter Durscher taking the traveling prize. A picnic lunch followed and funds were given to the Halversons.

Mrs L L Kiple hosted the Elgin Study Club in the kindergarten room on Tuesday evening October 13. The program featured Art Bless this House Art Treasures Illustrated and discussions on Art in the Home and in the kindergarten. Irene Kiple demonstrated painting figurines and oils while Sharon Wentz led finger painting.

Willam Rudolf Frederick Krueger 67 died October 9 in Portland Ore Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church Elgin Friday Burial in Elgin Cemetery He was born September 2 1885 in Waverly He married Ella Freiburghaus in 1912 and had four children Raymond Wm Jr James of Portland and Dorothy Danner of Everett He leaves eight grandchildren one sister Mrs Paul Lindsteadt Jamestown No Dakota and one brother Herman Waverly He farmed near Elgin moved to Portland in 1986 employed with son Raymond He was a member of Oregon Trinity Baptist Church The family thanks mourners for sympathy and kindness

E H Conner of Rochester returned home after several weeks in D 10 Dean home. Families and friends from St Olaf Decorah Postville Webster City Arlington Chelsea Okla Linda Gary and others shared a Sunday picnic at Morris Walden Decorah. Mrs Floyd Jennings from St Louis visited Elgin relatives before returning home.
Visitors from Kinton to Luana and Cedar Rapids filled weekends with dinners, picnics, and housewarmings. Emil Moore and Popenhagen hosted and traveled guests included the Krueger, Medberry, Hackmann, and Frieden families, with trips to Decorah and Gays Mills. Fred Schupbach headed home to Riverside after six weeks with relatives.
Albert Schupbach and companions traveled with Anna Butikofer to spend the winter. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schori of West Union visited Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bartelmay in Plattville, Wis., with Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Light and Letha. Mrs. Bartelmay is formerly Bernita Bopp.
