Expect Car Insurance Rates to Increase
Rate increases announced by two national rating organizations will raise costs for Iowa drivers. The National Bureau of Casualty Underwriters projects about $8 annually for basic liability, while the National Automobile Underwriters Association reports changes of 17 cents for comprehensive, $7.42 for $50 deductible collision, and $6.12 for $100 deductible collision. Individual bills vary by location vehicle use driving record and other factors. Statewide Iowa auto premium shifts show higher liability and physical damage costs as adjustments reflect insurer losses. Governor Hughes taps Purdue economist James A. Papke to lead a $50,000 study of Iowa tax structure with a July report deadline. Papke will oversee research, coordinate activities, and advise on tax reform. Prison director search concludes with Joseph E. Coughlin named Iowa D. Continued to page eight.

Valley High Falls to North High 18 13 in Fog Shrouded Clash
Injuries hit Valley High as backfield trouble and a thick fog haunted the game. North High Hawks edged the Tigers 18 to 13 after halftime, exploiting a late air strike and a razzled dazzle sequence to pull ahead. Valley fought with a makeshift lineup, led by Greg Olson and Dave Roberts, but could not overcome the two sacks and penalties that kept their offense bottled up.
