The Elgin Echo Dial is published every Wednesday by Hermen & Bartunek from 3711 Elgin Iowa. It is entered as second class mail TM matter September 1, 1891 at the Elgin Fayette County Iowa post office under Act of March 3 2852.
Harvest and Rally program by the Sunday school on October 14 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church features songs prayers readings and messages. Tra cy Miller Kristine Lehman and other church members lead worship with offerings and meditations.
Mark John Larson the son of Pastor and Mrs Percy L Larson of Lanesboro Minnesota was baptized Sunday September 30 at North Prairie Lutheran Church. Sponsors were Harold and Margaret Hanson and Mr and Mrs Roger Larson of Rochester. Dinner guests included Mrs George Hanson and the Bernard Hanson and Roger Larson families. Mrs Geo Hanson stayed overnight. The Joseph Hanson family of Hopkins Minnesota visited Sunday evening after visiting Geo Hanson at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. George Hanson is improving after surgery.
The Marion Jr. Lutherans met Thursday evening Sept. 27 at the Marion Lutheran Church. Nineteen members answered roll call with Bible in hand. Officers were elected: President Kendra Loftsgard Vice President Marlys Hoag Secretary Becky Thompson Treasurer Janet Amundson Historian and Reporter Cheryl Anderson Photographer Kendall Mark. Elgin Iowa council met at town hall with mayor and all councilmen. Minutes read and approved with correction to August 19 1962 entry noting a petition for a special election on indebtedness to fund water to Schori's Addition. Bills were audited and allowed across funds including sanitation waterworks debt service recreation utilities safety and road use taxes.
Mrs Mervin Reierson led grades 4 and up in a Bible展示 with scrolls made by all. The Little Indian Girl Kamalon tale was narrated by Mrs Kenneth Mark for grades 1 through 3. They study mission fields and learned Bible books in song taught by Corrine Rypestol.
The Sunnydale Club met on Tuesday September 25 at the La Verne Larson home. Mrs LaVerne Larson led scripture reading and the group sang America. Officers were re elected for the coming year. Mrs Veryl Coffin showed Willow Ware china and Mrs Kenneth Block read an article. Mrs Veryl Coffin led a biblical contest. The October meeting will be at the Ole Reierson home.
A 1962 Elgin council special session appointed Iva Adrian Florence Capper and Ruby Mulford as election judges with Dorothy Muehlethaler and Leo Friederich as clerks for a September 7 election. The panel also leased a tractor from Bob Falk Implement for 109.31 monthly and discussed water system plans and street/Highway 172 speed controls. The ordinance was read and adopted with Mayor Max Medberry and Town Clerk Leo E. Friederich presiding.
A recipe from Mrs. Gilbert Loftsgard details making pecan pie filling using sugar flour milk egg yolks butter and ground pecans. The mixture is cooked until thickened then poured into a baked shell topped with meringue and pecan halves, baked until golden. Ground pecans recommended for best results.

Mr and Mrs Levi Frieden returned home Friday after a two weeks sightseeing trip to southern states visiting many relatives and friends in Iowa Kansas Oklahoma Missouri and Texas He was born September 16 1902 at Elgin son of Knut and Betsy Mark He married Agnes Kirkeberg December 7 1927 He was a carpenter and Lutheran church member Survivors include wife four daughters three sons seven sisters four brothers and six grandchildren with his parents and son Russell preceding him in death.
Reuben Mork 60 of Strawberry Point was killed when the 1957 Buick he drove was struck by a freight train at the C M St P and P crossing one mile west of Strawberry Point. The crash occurred about 7 20 p.m. Monday night Oct 1. Services were held Wednesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Rev Paul Bauer officiating and burial followed in Strawberry Point cemetery.
The extension service family living committee invites all to the hobby show in Elkder municipal building on October 16 from 1 PM. Demonstrations are scheduled for 2, 4, and 7 PM. Clubs may send readers for each craft to include crafts in their programs. Mr and Mrs Albert Christianson of Clermont visited Monday afternoon with Mrs Clara Hellum.
Funeral services for Theodore Lee Friederich were held Tuesday afternoon at Elgin Lutheran Church with Rev. Casper Fjelstul officiating. He was born November 12, 1941 in Iowa City and died September 20 at Postville Hospital after a lengthy illness at age 20. Survived by father William Friederich and two sisters Reva Wenthe and Marie Wenger, with stepmother and other relatives. Pallbearers named. expressions of thanks from the Friederich and Wenthe/Wenger families.

Veterans group and auxiliary will meet at Fayette Legion Hall on Sunday October 14 at 12:90 p.m. Picnic dinner followed by business meeting. All veterans and wives invited.
