The Iowa State Highway Commission approves a resolution to install a stop sign at the junction of Highway No 3 and Highway 150 north of Oelwein. It requires all southbound traffic on the southeast curve and all westbound traffic on the southwest curve to stop, plus traffic on the east and west tangent entering No 150.
Marion Busy Bees held a meeting at the home of Darlene Eva and Florence Hofer on October 3. Eleven members attended with all officers present. Officers elected include Florence Hofer president Carol Schupbach vice president Eva Hofer secretary treasurer Marion Christen reporter Marcia Metzger music chairman Sharon Schupbach librarian Helen Christen photographer Reva Friederich historian. The year’s topic is Home Furnishings with each girl to bring a favorite bedroom picture for discussion on color schemes and furniture.
Land Bank Meeting in Cedar Rapids hosted officers and directors from 22 eastern Town National Farm Loan Associations. Topics included cooperative farm credit trends and new legislation expanding Federal Land Bank loans. Representatives from West Union Fredericksburg Elgin Elkader and West Union served in leadership roles alongside Federal Land Bank of Omaha officials led by H A Vierguts and W V Erickson.
Albert Pokorney of Decorah converted his car to use bottle gas for fuel. The change cost about $300 but he expects savings in fuel costs. He says mileage improved, oil changes every 10,000 miles instead of 2,000, and the engine runs cleaner.
October is 4 H Enrollment Month with clubs meeting monthly at members’ homes led by two or more adults. Officers are elected by members. Meetings cover recreation business and education with lunch. February and March cover tractor maintenance and June hosts project visits.
Dr R A Crider was discharged and returned home Saturday from Town City after a finger plastic surgery procedure. Mrs Crider accompanied him and also returned home Saturday evening.
Walter Kohls entered the Veterans Hospital at Iowa City on Wednesday for observation and treatment.

Elgin residents Sandra and Ronald Blockhus visited Otto and Gerald Blockhus homes and other relatives in McGregor on Sunday. Ed Boleyn returned from Elkader after a several day stay. The group from Garber and West Bend joined Hazel Horst and Ina Rice hosts, then attended the Christensen Rice wedding in Inwood before returning Monday.
A long list of households from Macksburg Volga Postville and surrounding areas hosted or visited relatives and friends Sunday. The gatherings included Mr and Mrs Earle Whitworth and son Alan of Macksburg at George Whitworth’s, multiple Medberry and Olson households, Doan, Yearous, Gilson, and Halverson families, and trips to Clinton Waterloo Marion and Clermont.
