Pledges to Work for Government Harmony in Iowa

Pledges to work for harmony in a divided government over the next two years were voiced by Mooty who said neither he nor any official can speak for the Republican majority in the next general assembly. He vowed to be fair in committee appointments including liquor and tax issues and noted Democratic minority representation equal to 24 percent of senate voting strength. Mooty recalled presiding over a Democratic era in 1957, while Attorney General Hultman of Waterloo pledged full cooperation with Governor-elect Hughes, though without changing his office’s operations.
