Illyria Livestock 4 H Club assembled at Syria Church at 8 p m with nine members. President David Thompson led the meeting as Charles Frieden read minutes and Frieden and Glen Christen summarized finances. New members and 62 63 program planning were outlined with demonstrations assigned and record books updated.
Mr. Pete Kuhlmann and Mr. Will Christen led the gathering with Mr. Shaffer serving lunch, confirming continued local involvement and support for the event.
Lucky turkey winners at the Elgin drawing Saturday afternoon were Linus Hildebrand Jr West Union, Marlys Haug, Ernestine Holzer, Ramona Larson, Marion Moore and Rita Neumann. Plan to be in Elgin next Saturday. Register at the town hall for a free turkey.
Mr and Mrs Leo Schori traveled to Des Moines Friday to attend a meeting of the Iowa Nebraska Canners Association. On the return they stopped at the Alden Porter home in Cedar Rapids and visited Leo Schori Jr at Oelwein.
Thanksgiving dinner guests of George Falls included Creed Burks from Cedar Falls and Leo Lehman and daughters, Don Fauser, Keith Kohler, R P Strauch, Gregory Olson, Paul Fuser, and Larry Gardner. They attended the Michigan game Saturday at Iowa.
Social notes list Thanksgiving hosts Mr. and Mrs. Dean DeSart and a wide circle of guests including Mr. and Mrs. Norman Joan Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. J. A Erickson Clermont, and many DeSart relatives. Birthdays on Nov 17 are celebrated at Helen Blockhus home with gifts and lunch. Visitors from Oelwein, Marion, Waverly, Elkader, and Waterloo join dinners, hospital visits, and weekend gatherings as neighbors share meals and well wishes.
Local residents including Mr and Mrs Clark Hummel welcomed Dorothy Htter for Sunday dinner. The Hart family from Leon and John David visited Iowa City to see Mrs Alla Leonhart at University Hospitals. Ann Dennler moved into a new Center Street home built this summer.
Brainard News reports a flurry of Sunday and Friday visits across West Union Cedar Rapids and surrounding homes. Families including the Reeder Martin Gehring Hanson Patterson and Kohls households share dinners baptisms and overnight stays with many relatives and friends on weekend afternoons and evenings.
The Good Neighbors Club met on Tuesday, November 13, at the Hlyria location. Members shared updates and planned upcoming community events with emphasis on neighborly cooperation.
The meeting opened with a hymn and watchword as 22 members attended. Roll call asked about plans for Thanksgiving. plans for a Christmas party were made. Members should bring two dessert cookies or homemade candy or fruit juice to the December meeting, or leave them with Mrs. Celia Thoman. A $2.50 gift was given to Mrs. Robert Hanson for her new boy. Scripture and prayer were read, a poem was read, and three members joined in a birthday song. Door prizes went to several members. visitors from Waukon stopped by to see their new grandson and nephew Ed Medberry.
