Frieda Berger Etter was born October 18 1882 in Canton Bern Switzerland and died November 7 at Palmer Memorial Hospital aged 80 years 20 days. She married John Etter February 11 1901 and had four children Irvin L Janesville Wisconsin Lawrence F deceased John E Granada Hills California and Dorothy Elgin. Survived by Irvin Dorothy sister Marie Hummel Arlington brother William Berger Volga four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services held 1:30 pm funeral home and 2 pm Baptist church burial at Elgin cemetery. Rev Schroeder officiated with a quartet and organist. Card thanks from Frieda Etter family.
Lovely Lane Methodist church of Cedar Rapids purchased a parsonage at 2333 Brookland Drive NE. The Rev. and Mrs. Donald Caspers and their four sons moved in, with a study to serve as a church office. Services are in Cedar Memorial chapel. The program featured Mrs. Lester Gehring and Mrs. Rex Mulford, guest speaker Mrs. Ella Dummermuth on Our Military Base in Cuba, and a UNICEF donation of 100. The Study Club earned a gold star. future meeting shifted to Dec 11 with Mrs. Thomas Pollock hosting.
A letter to Mrs. Jacob Friederich Jr. from Maui describes a UNICEF sponsored cottage for 16 orphans aged 4 in Rizal Philippines. Navy Officer wives provide equipment and visit, praising American sponsorship. The Elgin Study Progress and Tertia Clubs thank donors for funds and time supporting UNICEF efforts worldwide.
Mrs. Fred C. Muehlethaler acted as hostess for the Elgin Study Club last Tuesday with Mrs. C. O. Torkelson assisting. The program centered on Guantanamo, Cuba with inspirational piano selections by Tom Zurbriggen and a roll call prompting the cue phrase For.

Pleasant Valley and Clermont township Homemakers clubs host family night on Tuesday November 27 at 7 30 p m in the Valley High School lunch room. The program includes a musical number a hats skit and Mrs Joyce Kerr speaking about her trip to Louisiana with slides.
A note states a picnic lunch will follow the program and that everyone in the community is welcome to attend. The brief invites broad participation and emphasizes inclusive local involvement.
A group of MYF members attended a World Friendship banquet Saturday evening at West Union. After dinner speaker was Jim Nidunga from Kenya, a student at LSU. Attendees included Rev. Lee Roy Collins, Ivanell Wilson, Iantha Strong, Connie Baumgartner, Karla Kohler, and Lynette.
