The Elgin Echo in Elgin Iowa is published weekly every Wednesday by Hermen and Bartunek. It was entered as second class mail matter Sept 1 1891 at the Elgin post office under the 1852 act.
Advertising rates listed per line at ten cents with a weekly minimum of thirty cents if cash accompanies the order. otherwise a 56 cent minimum. Blind ads or inquiries are 50 cents per week minimum. Card of Thanks and In Memoriam cards: one dollar. Notation limits apply to ten lines. extra lines five cents each. Resolutions of Respect and other notices with admission charged follow regular rates.
Mardelle West was guest of honor at a bridal shower hosted Wednesday afternoon October 18 at the Mervin Larson home. Leon Streich er of Lamont is the groom elect for November 19. Hosts were Mrs. Mervin Larson Mrs. Herbert Berns and Mrs. Don Larson. Various games and gift opening followed by lunch hosted by a long list of guests.
Mrs Lydia Odegard and Joan Hanson hosted dinner for Mrs Martin Hanson Mrs Fannie Frieden and Mrs Celia Thoman last Monday. Mr and Mrs Martin Hanson dined with Mrs Lizzie Chase on Thursday. Archie Howard Bert Shaub and Anita were visited on the way home. Elkader guests Anita and Bert Shaub visited Ben Butikofer Sunday. Gene Schori and Kathy called on Albert L Dennler Wednesday. Russell Larson family visited Sunday. Earl Kiple Martin Hanson Walter Butikofer dined with Ellen Mason Edwin Hanson Tuesday. Celia Thoman joined Lydia Hanson and Teddie Doeppke of Elkader to Chatfield Minn Saturday to visit Marvin Berse Danice and Janie for Janie’s birthday. Visitors and callers Sunday.
Last week at the John Christen residence many guests called in including Mrs Ernest Christen dinner guest Sunday and the Will Christen family Rev Donald Caspers Paul Zurbrig gen Mrs Roscoe Larson and Gordon Pollock. The Robert Hanson family were dinner guests in the Martin Hanson home Sunday. Wilbur Peake and wife went to Rochester Minnesota Sunday with Mrs Peake staying several days for observation. Fred Butikofer and wife visited Sunday afternoon in the Wm Moore home.

Elgin and Highland parish events list a Thursday 8 pm congregational meeting with Rev. Virgil Hougen. Saturday activities include Jr. Confirmation and Choir with Sr. Lutheran and Confirmation. Sunday October 5 features Sunday school at 9:30 am and worship at 10:30 am.
The neighbor ladies hosted a farewell coffee for Dora Lehman at Mrs. Walter Falk’s home on Tuesday afternoon. Attendees included Mesdames Lehman Frieden Butikofer Blockhus Butikofer Burrow Muelethaler Jensen Blockhus Lehman DeSart and Walter Falk. A gift was presented to Dora Lehman.
Miss Helen Muller and Robert Medberry wed in a candle light ceremony at Immanuel Lutheran Elkport with Rev. Harold Koehler officiating. The bride wore chantilly lace and French tulle with a scalloped veil, carried red roses, and was attended by Judy Muller as maid of honor. Guests included family from Elkport Elkader and Elgin, with reception staff and a short wedding trip ahead to Elkader.

Mr and Mrs Fred Butikofer visited in the William Moore home Sunday afternoon. Mrs Merle Clark and Mrs Ralph Henson and children of West Union called on Mervin Anderson Monday afternoon. Earlier Mr and Mrs Butikofer were seen Saturday evening. Mary Jo Kohls, daughter of the Kohls family, was noted in the Elgin social column.
