Waterloo baseball returns with new Western league club

Waterloo resumes organized baseball Tuesday night as a new Western league class A club faces the Des Moines Demons in the opening four game series. The game starts at 6:16 under the lights at the new stadium on the old Mississippi Valley league plant site near the Dairy Cattle Congress grounds. Owner Frank Haley shares a St. Joseph pedigree with the club, which features many former St. Joseph pennant winners and plans most games at night with Sunday afternoons and the first Saturday game also scheduled in the afternoon as an experiment.

Villa Louis Open to Visitors in Prairie du Chien

Villa Louis opened its doors to the visiting public with hourly tours at 9, 10, 11 am and 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 pm daily. An official transfer will occur when Louis De V. Dousman arrives later in the month to turn the restored house over to the city. Evening tours are offered 7 pm on Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday. Framed legends describe features and furnishings throughout the house.

Two Men Held on Statutory Charge in Guttenberg

W C Printy and L Scott, dam and lock workers in Guttenberg, were arrested for a statutory offense on the Marquette girls' complaint. Both appeared before Justice Geo Ehrhardt. Printy is jailed in Elkader with $2,500 bail, Seoth admitted to bail.

Sheriff Orders Fur Venders to Move On in Waukon

Three men claiming to sell furs and fur coats were questioned by Sheriff King of Allamakee county in Waukon for lacking a state license to dispose of merchandise. They were told to leave after failing to show required licenses and comply with state laws. This marks a second incident in months of fur peddlers operating without proper permits in the town.

GOP Meeting Dates Set for July in Iowa
