Senior Visit Veishea drew twenty four seniors with sponsor Mrs. Wenger and parents to Town State College Ames for high school day. Open houses showcased fields at the college including mechanical engineering sports cars and a stock market ticker display. The Veishea events featured Stars Over Veishea Veishea Vodvil and Veishea Rodeo with bull riding calf roping and vaudeville skits.
Commencement exercises for Elgin High School seniors are set for Friday May 20 at 8 00 p m in the high school gym with Dr Eugene E Garbee president of Upper Iowa University as speaker The school picnic will be held at noon the same day and will close the 1954 school year.
Teen-agers will test driving skills in a 1955 automobile at the Oelwein Teen Age Road-E-O with prizes for winners. Winners may advance to the state contest and then to the national contest in Washington, D C. Participants in the national contest will enjoy a week of activities in Washington with planned events and opportunities.
The event awards up to 3000 dollars in scholarships and all expenses paid plus a chance at a share of the fund. Participants from Elgin include Glen Snyder Chuck Medberry a senior and John P Falk a junior.
A senior Yo-Ag student recorded his May project results from January 1 to May 10 showing total receipts 617.00 and total expenses 531.70, yielding a net profit of 85.30. The period reflects a little over ten cents per day per month, indicating careful record keeping and awareness of financial position. Do you know this month about your home flock.
The Marion Mission Society met Thursday afternoon May 12 at the church parlors. Hostesses were Mdris Otto Gisleson Lloyd Reierson T L Loftsgard and Lewis Kjosa. Mrs Kenneth Kjosa led devotions and Bible study with a Life Membership reading by Mrs Ida Leuchtenmacher.
We thank friends and relatives for gifts cards and flowers received during our stay in Postville hospital.

Highland church holds May 21 1:00 confirmation class. 9:00 divine worship with confirmation and communion. 10:00 Sunday school.
E G Steinman minister leads worship at 10:00 a m Sunday school at 11:00 a m. Senior choir rehearsals Thursday at 9 30 a m and 7 30 p m. Youth Fellowship next Sunday at 6 30 p m with a picnic supper and a membership service after. Vacation Bible School begins next Monday at 9:00 a m. The W S C 5 circles meet Thursday this week.

The Friendly Church with Living Message led by Pastor H John Vanderbeck lists daily sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. May 23 to May 28 with the theme Sailing With Christ, transportation provided, plus a May 26 program by the Men's Brotherhood and an 8:45 p.m. senior choir practice. Mrs Elmer Lembke expresses gratitude for cards letters visits and help at home during hospitalization. Edna Hunsberger thanks friends for cards and gifts received during stay at Decorah hospital and Methodist hospital in Rochester Minnesota.
Mrs. Bertha Kiple was taken to the Postville hospital Saturday for treatment. At Iowa City Hospital, Sylvan Torkelson went to Iowa City Sunday to enter the University hospital for observation. Mrs. Torkelson took him there. Surgery at West Union, Mrs. Arthur Chapman returned home from the West Union hospital Sunday, May 8, after being hospitalized about a week following surgery.
Mrs Louis Butikofer spent last Thursday in the Herman Schup bach home at Postville. CARD OF THANKS. I wish to thank all my friends and relatives for the cards, gifts and visits while I was in the hospital at West Union and since returning home. These are all greatly appreciated.
