Fayette County Early Law Days in West Union
The article recounts Fayette County's early offices in a small West Union building on King Street. It details the county judge, clerk, sheriff, treasurer, and recorder with papers and records, the 1850s transfer of the treasurer’s funds, and notable court cases including the Minski habeas corpus saga and the Stobaugh v Burk jury episode. It highlights the period’s cramped facilities, rapid changes in office locations, and a deputy treasurer role amid 19th century county operations.
