Secret planning notes surface for the Valley High Juniors and Seniors Banquet and Prom on May 13 at Clermont. Band from North High Union to provide “toe tickling” SeWusic while banquet preparations include delicacies by junior class and service by six sophomore girls and six sophomore boys.
Ralph W Reed born February 2 1918 in Wadena Iowa grew up there and in West Union. He married Marjorie Regerson on June 6 1941 and had son Roger and daughter Linda. He served in the 74th Ordinance company as a staff sergeant in Hawaii for about two and a half years. He and his wife bought the Mary Allen farm south of Elgin and he worked for the Elgin Cooperative and served as Assistant City Clerk and Justice of the Peace. He was active in the Legion serving as commander and helped build the Legion Home and Elgin Lutheran Church where he was treasurer. Ill in the fall of 1959 he underwent surgery at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City and died April 21 at the Veterans Hospital Town City at age 43. He was survived by his wife, children, parents, a sister Colleen and many relatives and friends. Card of Thanks not adequately expressed our gratitude

Wm Moore and children join Fred Butikofer’s home visit. Wilbur Peeke spends evening with Addie Peake at Manchester hospital. Mrs Ileh Maison calls on Roma Rischeid in Elkeder and shares coffee with Irene Minihan and Lena Nybus among others.
Brainard area residents hosted and visited in multiple homes across Sunday dinners and midweek gatherings. Families from Waterloo Clermont Wadena Marion Otis and surrounding towns attended parties, birthdays, and social evenings, with numerous couples and individuals hosting guests at Musser Boyer Martin and Gehring homes.
Mrs N J Blockhus and Mrs John Juhl hosted in their absence Mr and Mrs Kenneth et al for a dinner after church. The plainfield party included Mrs John Jehl Pantine Jun Nedlida Mrit and airs Gebe Juhl Jede and Sohn, Hudeot, Mr and Mrs M J Blockhus and Mrs Melvin Hanson. Mr and Mrs Mervin Anderson were callers Saturday evening. Also calling were Mr and Mrs Dwayne Friden Carol Ann and Lane, Mr and Mrs Ed Butikofer Serwari wniy and Mrs Walter Hill and family, Mr and Mrs Jul Yas Jillieon. They visited with Mrs Cum Kurth at Gun My amid Meg Marvinstake. Guests of Mr and Mrs Lyle Olvin Sunzing were Ms Ch Minera reburabd and Fox. A lecture on April 22 was noted.
