Marion Busy Beez Luncheon and Club Elections
At the April 10 meeting held at Dorothy Meisner's home nine members answered roll call. They planned a 75 cent donation to the club treasury at the next meeting and noted a dollar given to IFYE. Marie Frederick and Sharon Schupbach were named convention delegates, with Schupbach as alternate. Carol Ann Frieden was chosen Junior Better Groomed Girl and Dorothy as Senior. Schupbach and Liane Wenger will try out for Rally Day soles. Marie Friederich and Dorothy Meisner for chorus. State camp selections include Marie Friederick, Marion Christen, and Darlene Hofer. Helen Christen to try for creed. Tryouts and chorus practice set for Friday, April 21 at Hikader. Helen Christen demonstrated cake secreting. Eight guests attended. Illyria Homemakers Club met April 21 at Mrs Harold Strongs home with 14 members present. Don Rainier Farm Bureau fieldman spoke on Farm Bureau aims and county legislature items were discussed. A Cedar Rapids trip to tour Quaker Oats was proposed by Pleasant Valley club. A skit by Inez Christen Zella Strong Hazel Gernand and Rice bert Ted the Pro presen lesson Hat Making. Next meeting May 19 at Mrs Christen home with Mabel King teaching making pots and planters. Lunch was served by the hostess. Wm Moore attended a store convention this week. Mr and Mrs Selmer Holm were weekend visitors.

Valley High Dominates State Music Contest
Valley High School earned high ratings at the State Music Contest with multiple Division I awards. At Tripoli a chorus and ensemble program led by soprano Dorothy Helgerson and pianist Nancy Whittenbaugh received top marks across solos, quartets, and brass and woodwind ensembles. The event featured seventeen schools, with Valley High placing highly in divisions for band, choir, and small and large ensembles, reflecting broad student achievement and strong faculty instruction. Large group events also took place April 28 at Wavesly, including Division A contests for band, choruses, and related ensembles.
