Elgin Iowa town council met March 6 1950 with Mayor Falk and four members present. Bills totaling numerous items including utilities labor lumber and fuel were approved. Officials for the March 27 election were named and Ordinance 179 setting compensation for the mayor and council was read passed on second and third readings and adopted.
A series of notices announces Republican candidates for Fayette County offices in the upcoming 1950 primary. Hazel Gehring seeks Fayette County Auditor. W M Knox seeks re nomination for County Treasurer. Robert Wilson and Philip H Wolfe announce runs for County Supervisors. Odney Oelberg seeks County Recorder nomination. Election date set for June 1950 with various start terms in 1951 and 1952.
Kathryn Dunn of Lone Tree has completed 30 years as a telephone operator without taking a vacation. She estimates her calls placed over the years in the millions. In Stanwood, Mort Coppess and his twin sister Mrs. Harlan Miller celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary.
Ordinance No 179 establishes pay for Elgin mayor at 75 dollars annually and council at 2 dollars per regular or special meeting with annual cap of 108 dollars. A baby born to Mr and Mrs M J Blockhus on March 11. Mr and Mrs Ray Heins and baby visited the Weibel home in town. Frank Shipton and wife visited the Harrington home. The Narrows east of Elgin is unsafe to drive and residents want road widening and Elgin Gunder road repair ordered by Clayton county supervisors.
