The Elgin Echo Dial published weekly from Elgin Iowa by Hermen and Bartunek announces its second class mail status under Act of March 3 1852 and listing Fayette County Iowa as the postal location with the date September 1 1891.
Graveside services were held last Saturday at 10:00 a.m. for Mrs Carrie Doty, a local resident, with Fig Lee Roy Collins officiating. Michigan relatives included daughter Genevieve Johnson and daughter-in-law Olive Doty, with Waterloo nieces and nephews present.
Mrs. Clara Baumgartner hosted the Elgin Study Club last Tuesday with assistance from Mrs. C. T. Fjelstal. Fjelstal read two poems and gave an inspirational reading. Max Medberry and Guernsey Smith spoke on life in Japan while pictures from Billy Stephenson James Cook and Noel Smith were shown. The county convention is on March 28 in Arlington with delegates Henry H. Wolf and Thomas Pollock and alternates Martin Wenger and John Tilotson. R. P. Strauch named club woman of the year to represent the group at Arlington event.
Pleasant Point Study Club met at Mrs. Orran Bane home on Tuesday afternoon March 12 with guests Mrs. Eugene Wenger and Mrs. Ed Wenger. Members planned an extra gathering April 2 at Forrest Shaffer home to tie comforters and bring sack lunches.
The Marion Happy Hustlers gathered at D Ana Cline’s home where basketball tournament plans were discussed. A demonstration was given by Emoch Hanson and Keith, showcasing plays and tactics.
Roger Bergare led a quiz on hogs for members after a meeting themed Water Everywhere. Lunch followed served by Mrs. Larry Cline and Mrs. Norman Amundson, closing the event.
The Willing Workers Club met Wednesday afternoon March 6 at the Robert Wettleson home. Members helped Mrs. Wettleson assemble a quilt. Guests included Mrs. Enoch Mark Mrs. Mary Anin Anderson Dawn Denise and David. April gathering set for Mrs. Millard Gisleson residence.

The Elgin council discussed removal of labor show entries Sam Schneider and Larry Butikofer, approved a class B permit for Clair and Mardella Lauer, and authorized maintenance contracts with Fayette County for roads within Elgin limits. Fire Chief Earl Lembke reviewed proposed changes to township fire protection. Adjournment followed. MAX MEDBERRY, Mayor.
The Baptist Mission Society met last Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Archie Schroeder with Mrs. Alfred Jacob assisting. The program included singing Beauty of the Earth, responsive reading, a prayer, a reading from First Corinthians by Rev George Breitkreuz, and a prayer period. Contributions came from Mrs Clifton Miller Mrs Selmer Erickson Mrs John Schaer and Mrs Fred Schaer. Minutes treasurer report were read and approved. Three missionary letters were read including one from Mrs.
Roll call echoed with a Bible verse. Thank you cards were read. Closing prayer led by Rev. George Breit. The fragment indicates a church or community gathering in Schantz, Colorado, with customary opening and closing rituals.
The Progress Club entertained Clermont Town and Country Club on Monday evening March 10 at the Baptist church. Mrs Russell Goodell welcomed guests. St Patrick’s Day guessing games and contests were held. Loretiace Muehlsthaler presented The Friendly Cup and demonstrated soup preparation and serving containers. The program closed with group singing.
Mrs Tea Voshell spent her life in the Volga and Arlington areas and was baptized in the Christian church. She married Ira Voshell on March 31, 1903 and they had seven daughters and one son. Preceded in death were two daughters, three brothers, three sisters, and five grandchildren. She was a faithful mother.
Survivors include husband five daughters Vera Mrs Clarence Ewing Savanna OL Leta Mrs Lester Crain Elgin Hav el Mrs Merlin Lamphier of Strawberry Point Gladys Mrs Harry Frieden Elgin Bessie Mrs Clarence Hofer Elgin one son Clifton Voshell McGregor one brother Francis Cummings Tempe Ariz 36 grandchildren 68 great grandchildren and many relatives. Memorial services were held at the Arlington Methodist Church with Rev Herbert Shaffer presiding organist Mrs John Smith and vocal numbers by Mrs Frank Thompson and Mrs Paul Schuchmemn Jr Going Down the Valley and Jesus Call Us were sung Burial followed at Taylorsville cemetery.
