The P. V. Farm Bureau Homemakers met March 8 at Mrs. Richard Friden’s home with 15 members and three guests. The meeting opened with the pledge, roll call on a local project, and a study focus on Scotland led by Mrs. Kenneth Block.
Reading selections and a talk on Farm Bureau opened a meeting where members discussed Rural Womens Day on March 18 at Maynard. A style show will feature several members and their children, with ushers named.
Army PFC Curtis R. Snitker, 19, son of Mr and Mrs Raymond M Snitker Route 2 Postville, participated in Exercise Wintersnap II in Korea with I Corps. A 1962 Wakona High School graduate, he is a mechanic in the 5th Military Police Company who enlisted in June 1962 and arrived overseas last November.
Kathryn Jones daughter of Russell A Jones of Wadena pledged with Zeta Phi at the University of Dubuque. Bids to membership followed a series of pushing parties that began February 10 at the university.
A school update describes weekly social studies on communism and its impact. Science films on diseases in Africa and Southeast Asia are shown, detailing ailments and their control. Language class slides from Mr. Cook’s Army tour of Japan showcase gardens and flowers.
A bus load of Clayton County 4 H members will travel to Weyburn, Saskatchewan this summer for a week living with host families. Organized by County Extension Associate Jack W. DeWolf, the trip is open to all county 4 H members aged 14 or older. The group departs Elkader on July 12, goes to Kenora via Minneapolis and International Falls, then across southern Manitoba to Weyburn for a week, returning July 22 via South Dakota and Minnesota, with Mount Rushmore and Black Hills sights en route.
Alan L. Wenger of Elgin has been promoted to airman first class in the United States Air Force. An aircraft crew member, Wenger earns this advancement recognizing his duties and training.
A mechanic assigned to the 4614th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron near Clermont Elgin High School graduate. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Edward B Wenger of Elgin. He and his wife Mary formerly of Gaylord Pueblo Colo have one child.
The State Services for Crippled Children will run diagnostic clinics in Oelwein on March 27 and 28 at the First Baptist Church to serve children under 21 with chronic or crippling conditions from Clayton and Fayette counties. Referrals by physician or dentist required for examinations in pediatrics orthopedics pedodontia psychology speech and hearing physical therapy nursing and electrocardiography.
March 14 at Strawberry Point hosts a Cotton Dress Workshop. March 15 lists Elkader events. March 18 includes ASCS SCS Extension staff outreach at a scheduled office venue.
Attend county visits at Guttenberg Strawberry Point and Monona Elkader in municipal buildings from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during March with ASCS-SCS staff. Also a Fortnightly Womens club meeting at Strawberry Point. Mrs Klingman attended the Minneapolis apparel market, visiting Waconia and F D Medd home, returning Tuesday.
