Dr T Tayloe and his family in Washington North Carolina were poisoned with arsenic-laced tea and hash by Jim Walker a driver. He confessed claiming only the old nurse incited him. Troops mobilized to protect the accused man amid public tension.
London dispatch reports official notice that all hope for the Condor is abandoned as its accounts are to be closed. The 980-ton British starship departed Victoria on December 2 for Honolulu with 130 crew, and has not been heard from since leaving port.
A sensational report from Vienna claims a plot to destroy the warships Hapaburg and Arpad at Pola. Dynamite was recently stolen at Trieste and an anonymous letter warned the ships were imperiled, prompting intensified guards on the vessels.

Lexington March 1 Nathan Stubblefield, inventor of wireless telephony, has traveled to Washington for a public demonstration of his invention on the Potomac River.
Chicago dispatch reports eighteen American soldiers from the Philippines, transported to a Washington hospital, all in violent, incurable madness. Guards restrain them with irons as onlookers recoil at their ferocious, beastlike behavior, blamed on alcohol and heat.

A Missouri charity official urges congressional seed support from state delegation.
Pittsburg reports that Alexander R. Peacock former Carnegie company executive moved his family from Lexington Avenue to the Holland House New York after repeated threats to abduct his three children for a 25000 ransom. Detectives took charge and arrests are considered practically certain.
Frank Dunn noted grower of blooded cattle and Northern Missouri farmer perished in a barn fire at his Westboro area home. He entered to release stock when the roof collapsed, incinerating him. Several cattle housing structures were inside the barn during the blaze.
