The Springville High School Band under Roy T. Schwab will give a free concert at Elgin High School gym on Tuesday March 22 at 8:00 p.m. as part of a two day tour with stops at Coe College Oelwein Elgin Strawberry Point Coggan and Central City. After arriving in Elgin at 4:00 p.m. the band will enjoy a picnic supper with the Elgin band and spend the night with local musicians.

Clarence King of Delwein was named county corn growing champion at a Des Moines banquet honoring Iowa champions. He posted 136.50 bushels per acre in Fayette county’s 1954 DeKalb five acre contest, with Lee Williams of Westgate second at 134.70. Dale R. Williams of Delwein placed third and Rodney Drewes of West Union fourth with 129.54 and 127.03 bushels per acre respectively.
Sixteen members of the Pleasant Point Study Club and their families met with Mr. and Mrs. Orran Bane on Tuesday March 8 for a noon basket dinner. The regular business meeting was led by the president. The club voted to donate a crate of fruit to the Samaritan Home in West Union and give $2.50 to the Red Cross.

Son Born Mr and Mrs Henry McMillan announce birth of son James Sheldon March 3 to Mr and Mrs Sheldon Kaiser of Caruthers Gallf. The Kaisers have two daughters. He was a former Elgin teacher.
