Elgin Iowa post office in Fayette County is designated second class mail matter under the 1852 act, with the date of Sept 1, 1891. The notice records classification and mailing duties for the local office.
The notice lists subscription rates of 2.00 per year for four northeast Iowa counties and 2.50 per year for areas outside the territory paid in advance. Advertising rates include readers, fine rates at 10 cents per line, minimum 80 cents per week with cash, or 60 cents otherwise. Lois Dennler, daughter of Mr and Mrs Elmer Dennler of Elkader, wed Raymond Loftsgard son of Mrs Ruth Loftsgard of Elgin in a candlelight ceremony February 22 at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church Elkader. The Rev Paul Kitterer officiated before an altar of red and white roses.
Butikofer Jr, Joan Dennler, Sharon Loftsgard and Shirley Mueller organized the gifts for a wedding. The bride wore a blue gabardine suit with white accessories and a pink rose corsage. After a brief southern trip, the couple will live on a farm near Monona.
Torvald A. Holm born May 11 1877 in Marion township Clayton county died Feb 20 at Postville hospital aged 77. He married Kjirsti Landsgaard in 1905 and had son Selmer. Holm farmed 43 years in Highland township, moved to Gunder in 1951, lived with son 19 years. Survived by son daughter in law three grandchildren two great grandchildren two half sisters and one half brother. Funeral at Muehlethaler funeral home and Marion Lutheran church. Burial in cemetery. The Elgin Progress Club hosted husbands at a Tuesday dinner at the Methodist church. Hostesses were Mrs Herbert Kohler and Keith Kohler, Lorence Muehlethaler, and Harold Halverson. The program included an act play Red Key by Vera Hangartner Jo Ann Moore and Charles Wagner a Driving From the Back skit by Mr and Mrs Harry Johnson a trombone quartet and a girls sextet with listed performers.
The Wapsipinicon Area Council sponsors an annual University of Scouting held on four college campuses including Upper Iowa University. Sessions run March 165 22 29 and April 5 at 7 30 p m in five rooms on the Upper Town campus for Cub Boy Scout Explorer and advanced scouting leaders.

Arthur J Boyer plans a sinus operation at the Vets Hospital with address V A Hospital Room 162 30th Euclid Des Moines Iowa.
John Lantz travelled to LaCrosse Friday and underwent major surgery on Monday. Maynard and Walter Lantz accompanied him Friday. Mrs Selma Greenley returned home Sunday from the Postville hospital and is feeling better. R L Grimes is a medical patient at Palmer Memorial hospital West Union after arriving Saturday. Clarence Mueh lehler returned briefly to the furniture store Monday after a week absent due to labyrinthitis an inner ear infection causing discomfort.
