The Grand Meadow 4-H Club met Monday evening February 14 at the Postville school house. Seven members answered roll with favorite winter sport. Plans set for 4-H Week March 5 to 13. Demonstrations included sewing techniques by Diana Bildern, Dixie Hoth, Zoe Thorson, Bona Mork, and more. Zoe Thorson spoke on hair brushing. Lunch was served by Mrs Enoch Mork, Gwen and Bona. Basketball followed. Next meeting at Kathleen Amundson's home March 14.
On February 14 the Wahonka Camp Fire Girls gathered at Letha Light’s home. A citizenship film was shown and Mrs. Leo Grether assisted with singing. Lunch was served by Mrs. Light and Letha, with Sandra Shepard as Scribe.
The Marion Mission Society met on Thursday afternoon February 10 at church parlors. Hostesses were Mrs. Kenneth Krosa and Mrs. Selma Groth. Devotions and Bible study were led by Mrs. Harvey Anderson with assistance from Mrs. Orlando Loftsgard and Mrs. F. K. Peterson. Members read by Mrs. Ida Leuchtenmacher and Mrs. Maurice Landsgard. A layette will be sent again this year organized by the Mothers’ Club. Mothers with Cradle Roll children urged to attend February 24 meeting at Maurice Landsgard home. Dr. Strandford showed more slides from a recent western trip. Birthday song was sung for seven members. Closing followed.
Uncle Sam's post office at Copock near Lockridge closed its window for the last time recently. The post office was first established in 1882.
Mary Jane Aitken and Burton Terry Wolf united in marriage at 4:00 p m Sunday Feb 20 at Temple B N J Des Moines Rabbi Edward Zerlin officiated with Mrs Lea Riedesel on organ Floral decor included pink carnations gladioli and white stock The bride wore a rosepoint lace gown with crystal pleated nylon tulle over satin and a silk illusion veil The couple will reside in Ames until June when Mr Wolf enters the service.
Members of the Elgin Study Club and guests Mrs. Mary Bailey and Mrs. Clara Kuster enjoyed a smorgasbord at Mrs. Wm. Grove’s home on Tuesday evening February 15. The program included America A Group Roll Call, A Kind Neighbor Deed One Hundred Per Cent America, Mrs. Clara Baumgartner To All on Equal Terms, and The American Creed and The Club Collect. A one dollar donation was sent to the Crusade for Freedom. Smorgasbord committee: Mrs. Karl Meinhard, Belva Snyder, Clara Baumgartner, John Tillotson. Next meeting at Mrs. Belya Snyder’s home with four panel discussions by senior students.

In Service Army Discharge, pl. Donald Wallner heads home from Germany after a year and a half, to receive discharge at Fort Sheridan. A/2c Robert H. Nickels lists a new address in California. Pic. John H. Palas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luver Palas, participates in Exercise Hail Storm at Camp Hale. Mrs. Hulda Sutter learns her son Donald is hospitalized with pneumonia in Laredo, Texas, at A-2c Donald Sutter.

The Springville Consolidated School band led by Roy T. Schwab begins a eastern Iowa tour on March 22 with concerts in Cedar Rapids Independence Elgin Coggan and Strawberry Point. Schwab marks his thirty first year of teaching at Springville. The Elgin community notes Louis Thoma Jr. is Springville superintendent and former Elgin teachers Mr. and Mrs. Howard Strong now teach at Springville. Schwab appeared as guest director at the Fayette county festival.
Mr and Mrs Eugene Schori and daughters begin moving into a new home after renting the Wenger first floor apartment behind the beauty shop. The Roger Walker family moves into the Kohls second floor apartment in West Elgin. The Lerch family vacates the Weibel residence on Center street to reside in the brick school house east of Elgin on the Blockhus farm.
Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops will perform at Wartburg College on March 11 for the third straight year. Dr A W Swensen announced this will be the Pops' last Waverly appearance for some time and urged attendance. The Knights gymnasium seats nearly 3,500, and Wartburg rarely repeats an artist.
The Pops have completely sold out and will perform in Wartburg on March 11 at 8:00 p.m. The concert promises a full house and a return engagement for fans.
Vandals broke into the Rockwell City school shop causing extensive damage to furniture and equipment. Among the destroyed items was a nearly finished cedar chest scarred with deep gashes. The item shows wanton destruction with losses to school property.
A cow owned by aWhi Keys east of Lorimer recently gave birth to three healthy triplet calves. Mother and calves are reported doing fine.
