Mary Phoebe Eastman Shutt Roberts, born August 22, 1857 in Auburn, lived in Elgin after marriages to John Richard Shutt and Humphrey Roberts. She died June 20 at age 93 in Elgin, survived by four nieces and a nephew and her husband. She was known for kindness, cared for a sick child during a blizzard, and long resided in Elgin. Funeral held at Elgin parlor with interment in Elgin cemetery.
E. H. Southworth, renowned harness maker, passed away at his Laurens home earlier this month ending a 63 year career in the trade. He built a local reputation for quality, serving customers across the region and leaving a lasting mark on the community.
Fayette county farmers may tour the Carrington-Clyde Experimental Farm near Independence during Field Day on July 19. The four mile drive north on Highway 160 leads to a 1:00 p.m. program featuring a business session and farm tour. Directors of the experimental farm associations will be elected at the meeting.
The farm of Iste Fred Krueger sold to Lyle Krueger who plans to move by March 1 next year. Amanda Krueger buys the Mee Crowe residence in Clermont now tenanted by the Franklin Wolf family and expects to move around November 1.
Mrs C C Christ entertained the Batoffe Club at a bridge and dessert luncheon Friday evening at her home. Prizes were awarded to Mrs W C Palb Mrs G J Mosby and Mrs C B Schori.
