Welfare workers urge public aid reform in Fayette County

A large attendance at a meeting in West Union endorsed state aid for relief with trained social workers. Miss Tyler outlined the emergency relief committees across Iowa and the cost savings, noting Fayette spent over three dollars per capita in 1932 while other counties were under a dollar. Supervisors Pick Relief Overseers for County Welfare

Following the termination of the county social worker Miss Seilers on June 1, the board recommended two new relief overseers. Amanda Gremmela of Oelwein will oversee the four southern townships including Oelwein city, and Elsie Smith of West Union will supervise the remainder of the county. Seilers moved to West Union with her husband Harry Mohn from Minneapolis after a visit.

Chevrolet and Oldsmobile dealers show a strong May rise with 65 761 new Chevrolet cars and trucks and a similar gain for Oldsmobile. GM plans higher production across most lines in June.
