The Elgin Echo Dial in Elgin Iowa announces its weekly publication schedule and postal record. It notes a second class mail status, Sept 1 1891, Fayette County, and ownership by Hermen and Bartunek with printing every Wednesday.
Overnight guests visited in multiple homes across towns including Lawrence Gehring West Bend and Bellevue. Family and friends from West Union Sumner Iowa City and Fayette shared meals and spent weekends with hosts and relatives. Janet Gehring traveled to Washington DC for a stay with Dr Edith Gehring.
The Clifford Moser family moved this week from Stanley to the Glenn Boyer Darm residence. Cliff, Clark, Craig, and Christine Moser visited Saturday afternoon at the Lyle Martin home. Sunday meals at the Melvin Hanson home included Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hanson and Greg, Cedar Falls. Myra and Mrs. Bob Hanson and Darrell, Elkader. Jim Hanson, Fayette. and the Lyle Martin family. Afternoon callers were Betty Cline and Shirley Friar, Waterloo.
The Reierson reunion gathered Sunday at the West Union fairgrounds. Attendees included Carlyle Kirkeberg and family from Monona, Clarence Kirkeberg from Postville, Mary Wold of Waterloo, Realto Wold and Joan from Edgewood, Lloyd Reierson families, Richard Reierson and others from Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids area, and additional Reierson relatives, with many Kin including King and Reed families.
Illyria Community Church elected officers for the coming year with Forrest Shaffer as president and Clarence Thoman as vice president. Paul Smith named secretary and Carl Gehring treasurer. Deacons include Billy Hennett Stanley Shaffer Eugene Medberry and Joe Ogle. Elders Reynold Strong William Yearous Carol Wilson Cleve Bennett Le Roy Rothlisberger. Trustees Will Christen and Melbert Meyer. Sunday school superintendent Kenneth Medberry and comminution steward Mrs Benner.
A lengthy local social column lists numerous visits and guests from Arlington Cedar Rapids Wadena Clermont West Union Postville and more. Notable names include the Klingman Yearous Hermen Dennler Frey Pollock and Shaffer families with varied weekend, Sunday, and Thursday gatherings across multiple towns.
The Baptist Women Missionary Union met at the church last Wednesday with hostesses Mrs Edward Krueger and Mrs Wilma Probert. The program included hymns Praise Him and My Redeemer, prayer and scripture readings, a talk by the Rev George Breitkreuz using Romans Luke and Acts, a solo by the Rev Breitkreuz, prayer period, roll call with Bible verses, and closing prayers. Contributions were given by Mrs Fred Schaer, Mrs John Schaer, Archie Schroeder, Harry Johnson, Metta Krueger and Selmer Erickson.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Meyer and son Peter of Calmar Mrs Gerald Anderson of Washington DC and Mrs C B Scho attended graduation exercises Thursday for Mrs Meyers son in law Patrick Condon at Winona State College Winona Minnesota
Mr and Mrs Earl Kiple attended the 7th annual state convention in Cedar Rapids from June 7 to 9. Delegates included the Kiples George Leuchtenmacher John Anderson and Clarence Becker. Headquarters were at the Roosevelt Hotel. It was the largest convention this year.
Sandra Blockhus and Don ald Shippy were married at Elgin Lutheran Church in a 7 30 p m ceremony officiated by Rev Casper Fjelstul The bridal party included Paula Rae Larson as bridesmaid and Paul Jennings as best man The bride wore a pink satin gown with lace bodice and veil selected by her family in Wadena Minnesota.
Kenneth Shippy and the bride were united in marriage with family members, including Fritz Ray Blockhus as cousin of the bride and Ken’s brother as groomsman. The reception followed in the church dining room with flowers, cake, and guest services, noting the couple’s home to be on Pleasant Street in Elgin.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Everett Janet Kayarid Errol and La Donna Lantz left Sunday for Vacation Village at Lake Okoboji to attend a Felco convention for assistant managers. They will return home Wednesday evening.
J D Shaffer of New Orleans, member of a road runners club, raced six times this spring and won trophies in three events. He trains with a five mile run at 4:30 a.m. followed by an eight mile after-work jog, totaling about 80 miles weekly.
Community members from West Union to Peterson and Kanawha joined celebrations and visits. Students from the Iowa City schools attended commencement exercises with L'Myra Anderson among the graduates. Numerous gatherings marked 20th wedding anniversaries, birthday dinners, and weekend hospitality as kin and neighbors traveled to Clermont and nearby towns for reunions and social events.
Mrs Edith Berg and Mrs Lulu Schmid were supper guests Sunday of Mrs Ella Schori and Georgia Mae. Mr and Mrs Carl Hackmann were picnic dinner guests Sunday in the Lulu Schmid home. Reuben Hackmann visited Thursday. Mr and Mrs Ed Anderson were morning visitors.
