Many Voted Monday In Pleasant Valley Primaries

The primaries drew strong turnout with 384 ballots cast in Pleasant Valley township. Republican votes totaled 847 and Democrat 87, far above 1930 figures. In Burlington, Mrs Igo Kinnan and her baby arrived Monday morning following her father John Baldwin's illness and death.

Charges Filed Against Sole Crash Survivor in Memorial Day Fatality

Gordon Dohrer of Bir kader faces manslaughter charges filed by Clayton county clerk F. E. Sharp after an investigation into a Memorial Day crash on highway 18 west of McGregor. Dohrer, the sole survivor among four, allegedly drove recklessly and a bottle of alcohol was found at the scene. He posted a $500 bond, waived preliminary hearing, and his case moved to the October district court term. Carl Limbeck and Arno Schievelbein died. Dohrer sustained injuries. No coroner's inquest was held.

Arthur-Bunting Rites Tie Randalia Couple in June Ceremony

Frances Arthur daughter of Mr and Mrs Leater Arthur Randalia and Orville Bunting son of Mrs Emma Bunting Elgin married at Arthur home in Randalia Friday June 8 in a small relative gathering. Forest Feller acted as best man and a sister served as bridesmaid. The groom a former Elgin High School graduate attended Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls and Upper Iowa University Fayette. Bride will reside in Fayette where they took part in the Diamond Jubilee. Attendees from Randalia included Mrs Emma Bunting Forest Feller and Blanche Whitcher of Wadena. The couple will reside in Aurora where he will teach.

Elgin German Band Campaigns for John Falk in Fayette County

The Little German Band from Elgin toured Fayette County last Thursday promoting John Falk. They began near ten o clock at Wadena then Arlington and Oelwein, continuing through Maynard, Fayette, Randalls, Hawkeye, West Union, Clermont, and Elgin by eight in the evening. They played selections at each stop and announced their purpose, with Hawkeye drawing the largest crowd at the farmers’ picnic and a warm reception.

John Baldwin Dies at Seventeen in Elgin Area

John Baldwin aged 18 died at his home south of Elgin after a lingering nine month illness. The funeral is set for Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at his home and 2 p.m. at the Baptist church with Rev. Lauer delivering the sermon. Mr and Mrs Walter Duracher and their three children visited Rudy Yunker’s home for dinner Sunday.

Bible Class at M H Church Met at Mrs Halstenzon Home

The Bible class of the M. H. church met at Mrs. C. S. Halstenzon's home. The program included songs such as Pass Me Not and What a Friend We Have in Jesus, a devotional on St John 17, and a roll call with scripture verses.

Elgin Falls In Ninth Inning To Westgate Nine to Eight

A small Sunday crowd watched Elgin and Westgate play nine scoreless innings before Westgate erupted in the tenth. Gehring walked two, was relieved by L L Kiple who walked another, then Westgate forced in three runs with bases loaded. Elgin had five total hits, but never more than one in an inning, and could not reach third base. Errors were few on both sides.

Mrs A C Stoffregen Dies After Gallstone Operation

Mrs. A. C. Stoffregen aged 82, a former Oelwein resident, died at Iowa City hospital Sunday night after gall stone surgery. She leaves her husband, two daughters, her father, and several sisters and brothers. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Miller Fool Hall Robbed and Rural Dairy Figures Reported

Sunday morning theft at Miller's pool hall where a slot machine and assorted goods were taken after a forced west window entry. The article also presents detailed dairy herd tests with 490 cows across 25 herds, listing milk production, butterfat, high cows, alfalfa trials, and a lengthy county election result roundup.

M. E. Ladies Aid Enjoyed Fine Meeting and Supper

The General Ladies Aid Society met in the church parlors last Thursday afternoon with hymns led by Mrs. H. S. Steele on organ. Mrs. Norris Capper read, Will am Weibel performed two piano numbers, and a duet by Mrs. Mel Kohler and Mrs. Mae Bopp accompanied by Mrs. Lewis Klingman. A fine supper was served by the First Division. next meeting June 30 with the Second Division as entertaining division. Wm. E. Baumgartner is improving after three weeks illness, much spent in bed, with friends hoping for his quick return to health.
