Mrs Len Simek gave a reading and plans were made for Memorial Day dinner. The next meeting will be June 22 at the Kari Miller home with Mrs Irvin Miller and others hosting. The Memorial Day dinner was a big success and the society plans to turn most of the proceeds to the basement addition project. The ladies thanked all for patronage.

The Elgin Farmers Dairy Co board offers the old stone ice house building at public auction to the highest responsible bidder. The sale is set for Saturday June 11 1932 at 1 p m at the creamery with further details to be announced. For advance information contact Fred Reichert. The board reserves the right to reject any or all bids.
After several nights of frost threats the Saturday morning frost was light and scattered with little damage observed. The Lehman family of La Hewlthe and son is mentioned among local residents noting warmer nights since.
A new million dollar suspension bridge linking Marquette Wisconsin and Prairie du Chien will be formally dedicated on Thursday June 9 with two more days of festivities in each city. A dozen bands and speakers from Wisconsin and Iowa will participate. The bridge will be free to cross all day June 9. The ceremony begins at 10 am on the land side, with activities in Prairie du Chien at 12 pm and the speaking program at 2 pm. The event features bands from Dubuque Mason City Elgin and Iowa contingents, plus the Little German Band from Elgin Iowa in costumes. Veterans groups will attend, and a parade and street carnival are planned for June 10 and 11 in Marquette. Officials invite the public to attend and celebrate the dedication with free bridge crossing.
Clermont West Union Farmera sburg Marquette and Decorah representatives joined Silverleaf Lodge A F A M in a special meeting last Friday where third degree work was conferred on a candidate. Elgin members helped entertain visitors and invited members from West Union and Clermont lodges to participate. About sixty attended.
Editor R. P. Strauch and several Elgin business men led a convoy of 40 Girl Scouts traveling from Elgin to McGregor. The group stayed in cottages on the Heights through the night and noted their annual return with pleasure.
The regular meeting of the Elgin 0. E. 8. will be held on Wednesday evening, June 8. There will be work and everyone should be there. Refreshments will be served. Mr. and Mrs. Luben and daughters of Buffalo Center visited Saturday through Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Miller.
Upper Iowa University hosts a two night pageant on June 6 7 featuring a cast of 444 from 65 towns across six states. President Arthur Bennett appears as George Washington and William Brush to diplomas. Elizabeth McMillan leads Elgin in votes for Pageant Queen with 26 votes.

An early morning blaze at Jacob Pfister's residence damaged furniture clothing and bedding in an upstairs room. Mrs Pfister suffered a burn while fighting the fire. the fire department contained the incident with minimal damage. Insurance adjusted and owners grateful for aid.
