Miss Carol Jean Shaffer and George Geater were married in a double ring ceremony at the Methodist Church in Vinton on Sunday June 24 at 2 30 pm Rev Robert P Phillips officiated before an altar with white gladioli and salal Two tall candelabra flanked the altar The bride wore an imported Chantilly lace gown with a bouffant skirt and veil carrying a red and apricot chrysanthemum bouquet The maid of honor and bridesmaid wore apricot silk organza gowns A five tier cake and four hundred guests marked the reception

George E. Landsgaard born August 1 1891 in Clayton county Iowa served in World War I from 1917 to 1919 with action on the Argonne Woods and Chateau Thierry. He was inscribed on Verdun’s Golden Book and married Rosena Torkelson in 1923. He lived near Gun der before his death from a heart attack June 28 at age 70. survived by wife three sons and two daughters.
Survivors include wife Rosena three sons Orlan Gordon of St Olaf Maurice of Postville a daughter Geraldine Mrs Leo Friederich of Elgin a brother Arthur of Elgin a sister Hulda Mrs Oscar Lindley of Osage eight grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral services were at Marion Lutheran Church with burial in Marion cemetery. Graveside military rite by American Legion Post No 375 Clermont. Casket bearers listed. Gratitude note from Mrs George Landsard family for sympathy memorials food and help.
The Elgin ALCW meeting opened June 21 with hostesses Mrs John Jr Butikofer and Mrs Russell Fried Butikofer. Ke yen Hilgemann played piano. Ushers were Mrs Claire Lauer and Mrs Barney Larson. Pastor Fjelstul led devotions from John 12 24. The focus was Youth with adult concern talk by Mrs Den Fauser. A piano solo by David Leonhart Londonary Air. Program chair Mrs Lyle Martin presented Bible study Christ Reveals the Way of a Fruitful Life. Worship offering meditation by several members.
