Elgin Echo from Elgin Iowa lists dial 4711 and states it is published every Wednesday by Hermen and Bartmneek. The paper is entered as second class mail matter Sept 1 1891 at the Elgin post office Fayette County Iowa under the March 3 1852 act.
Rate table shows subscription at 3.00 per year with advance pay and 508 per year extra for both sanes. Advertising prices per line ten cents with a weekly minimum 30 cents when cash with order, 50 cents for blind ads or inquiries. Cards of Thanks and In Memoriam at 1.00, with limits and extra line charges.
A simple rhubarb cobbler recipe combines sugar flour baking powder shortening and milk with vanilla. Layer rhubarb in a greased 9 by 9 by 2 inch dish, pour batter over, sprinkle sugar and hot water, bake at 400 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Submitted by Mrs Elmer Frieden.
The 34th reunion of the E. M. Roberts families was held at the West Union Fair Grounds on June 24. A dinner was served to between 80 and 90 relatives. Officers were reelected. Letters were read from absent relatives. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. Melvern Wetherbes Cedar Falls Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Roberts and Dennis Chicago Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wins and Sandra Chicago Mr. Arvid Troyer and family Virgil Troyer Gale Raffone and Chancey Troyer.

Elaine Maren Hellum and Arthur Schori Herrling were married at Marion Lutheran Church in Gander on Sunday July 8 in a candlelight ceremony performed by Rev. Henry J. Mathie. The bride wore a gown and was given in marriage by her father Merlin Hellum.
The Cedar Rapids bride wore a silk organza over taffeta gown with heart shaped scoop neckline and three fourths sleeves. Embroidered lace appliques decorated the fitted bodice and front panel as unpressed side and back pleats formed a chapel train. A fingertip veil with a crown of white flowers completed the look. She carried three orchids with stephanotis and ribbon on a white Bible. Bridesmaids in mint green taffeta wore pill box hats, gloves and matching accessories, each with a single strand pearl necklace and carnations. The ring bearer and best man attended, while a reception with a five tiered cake and dove decor followed the ceremony. The couple, after graduating from Valley High, left for Niagara Falls for their honeymoon.
Mrs Belva Snyder was hostess at a picnic dinner Sunday. Guests included Glen Snyder of Rapids City South Dakota and family members from Dike and Grandview such as Mr and Mrs Gene Snyder Kimberly and Kelly, Ray Bieri, Harlan Beik, Russell Gast, N P Schafer, Keith Beik, Dale Schlutz, Carl McGill and Henry Battenhagen. Glen Snyder stayed overnight Saturday and left Sunday for Rapids City.
Clayton County Extension lists July activities starting Thursday July 12 with Saskatchewan Exchange tours to Cedar Rapids and Amana, then a county 4-H Free Day Friday July 13. July 14 hosts Peppy Pals 4-H Achievement Show at Elmer Wagner home. Other events include Sersey Parish Show July 16, Busy Beavers Achievement Show July 17 at Gunder Lutheran Church, and July 18 4-H livestock workouts. July 19 brings Lucky Clovers Achievement Show in Strawberry Point, July 20 Grand Meadow Larks Achievement Show and District Guernsey Show at Turner Hall, and July 21 22 District Hereford Picnic and judging contest at Elkader.
Illyria Clipperettes 4-H Club meets Thursday July 12 at Illyria Church as part of the Extension Service calendar of events.

Mrs Comella Burrow traveled to Janesville Wisconsin to stay with Roy Burrow family. Stanley Lehman and Eric and Lee Sorenson of Chicago 88 were noted in Janesville. Mrs Hattie Smith of Arlington visited Thomas Pollocks July 4 to Sunday.
