The Valley High Tigers face Fayette in the girls sectional at Valley High in Elgin with semifinals on Friday February 19 and finals on Saturday February 20. Fayette 85 Valley 63 as Tigers trail from the start with Aanes 23 points leading Valley.
Dave Aanes and Steve Halversen scored 20 and 19 as Valley Tigers, coached by Derry Leonhart, defeated winless West Central Blue Devils 67-43. Valley held West Central to 6 in the first quarter and led 18-6 after one period, extending to 35-12 by halftime. The Blue Devils outscored Valley only in the third quarter, 15 to 11, while Valley maintained the margin.
Valley High Tigerettes dominate Guttenberg 105 49 to open sectional play. Linda Collins leads with 38 points, followed by Nancy Alderson 35 and Susie Kingery 23. Alleys from Larsen Hackmann and Jellings contribute as Valley cruises to a season defining victory.
The Valley High girls basketball team lost 42 35 to West Central Blue Devils in a postponed Feb. 10 game at Valley. Valley drops to 16 3 and suffered its first home loss in five years. Blue Devils Mary Hamilton and Gloria Wells led with 17 each. Valley’s Susie Kingery had 13 points and suffered a facial injury in the fourth quarter.
The West Central team held the last period with a stall to run down the clock. The Tigers trailed and then tied the game at 33 5 minutes left before the Blue Devils led 37 35 with a minute remaining.
