Families travel for funerals and teaching assignments, while a car accident near the Fayette fair leaves occupants unhurt.
Three year old Gary Wrench of St Ansgar drowned after he fell into an old three foot deep butter milk tank. In West Branch four year old Edward Furchtenecht died while swimming in an abandoned cistern. his body was found when his mother located his clothing at the cistern edge.
Verna Lois Blockhus wed Ernest W. Brandt in a double ring ceremony at East Clermont Lutheran church with Rev. A O Nesset presiding. The event followed by a 230-guest reception. outfits featured nylon and lace gowns, yellow white and orchid flowers, and a four tier cake. The couple, from Decorah and Waverly, plan residence in Waverly after Sept. 4, with Blockhus teaching at N W Bell and Brandt working as a station engineer.
Camp Firegirls in Elgin will sell Forget-Me-Nots on Sept 2 to raise funds for the Disabled American Veterans. Purchaser coins in Forget-Me-Not boxes support DAV chapters aiding disabled veterans, their families, and widows and children of deceased veterans.
Iowa reports a traffic death rate of 4.5 per 100 million miles, the state’s lowest ever, yet over 550 people die and more than 16,000 are injured annually. The Drive Right campaign is urged to sustain future safety gains.

The Elgin Lutheran Ladies Aid Society bought the Oak Grove school building at private sale for 900 dollars. The 24 by 32 structure is in excellent condition and will be moved to Elgin this fall near the Copper Hatchery on Franklin Street.
A 450 acre Cass county farm owned by Okay Peterson sold to Nick Jensen of Audubon for 60000 dollars. The transaction transferred full ownership of the farm Located in Cass county.
Miss Betty Pugh daughter of Mrs Sylvanus Whittle Straw berry Point wed Beni Hofer Jr at Illyria church in a ceremony led by Rev Bruce D. Jones attended by Barbara Raney and John Hofer. The bride is a Strawberry Point High School graduate and the groom a farmer. they will make their home at Foster.
The Fayette County Dairy Association showcased at the county fair last week focusing on milk filtration and cleanliness. The booth, led by B. H Brackin, featured items for clean milk production and included Elgin exhibitors such as Falb a Light machines, Standard Appliance, Gehring Hardware, Frigidaire appliances, and John Falk & Sons General Motors products.
Dr H A Lindblom of Armstrong pulled off a side road to deliver a baby boy weighing 5 pounds 11 ounces for patient Mrs Earl Wegner on the way to a hospital. The pair then continued to the hospital.
A church service featured heartfelt tributes as bouquets were sent by couples the pastor had married. With eighty years in the ministry noted, the congregation gathered to honor his long service during the regular service.
A plaintive year old cat named Fluffy adopted a brood of five puppies and is caring for them along with her own three kittens. The mother dog died when the puppies were only two days old.
