Subscription rates listed for Northeast Iowa counties two dollars annually and two fifty for all outside territory paid in advance. Advertising rates per line ten cents with minimum charges. Blind ads and inquiries at office incur minimum weekly fee. Cards of Thanks and In Memoriam priced at one dollar each, with notices limited to ten lines. Obituary poetry and resolutions may follow regular rates.
A girl from the city watches farm hands spread hay to dry and asks, Are they looking for us needy? The text blends casual commentary on hands and a remark on service as earthly rent with a Lord Halifax quote.
A collage of local notes recounts Elgin area history with the first train through Elgin in October 1872 and agent Ed Callendar. Sunday ceremony at Elgin Baptist Church united Miss Bonnie Jane Pinney and Raymond Miller in a double ring rites. Rev Ittermann officiated beside floral altar with Gladoli. Bride wore ballerina net gown. she carried a white Bible topped with a gardenia. Attendants included sister as maid of honor and Wilbur Miller as best man. A reception followed with a three tier cake and help from bridesmaids and relatives.
For her going away the bride wore a rose colored dress with white accessories and corsage. Mrs. Miller is a graduate of Elgin high school and has worked at Oelwein Mercy hospital for three years. Mr. Miller attended Strawberry Point school and farmed before his call to enter service. He now serves in the U S army at Fort Jackson South Carolina where the couple will reside.
Miss Lauretta Gilson and Willis Schultz wed at St Pauls Methodist Elgin in a double ring ceremony read by Rev E G Steinman. Attendants wore yellow and green gowns, organist Marlene Mosby performed, and a reception for about two hundred followed.
A church parlor reception featured gifts and snacks as Miss Barbara Crider Ames and Miss Shirley Reusser Rochester wed. Co-hosts included Leo Schori and Lawrence Knudtson. The bride wore a beige palm beach suit with navy, and the couple will reside in Prairie du Chien Wisconsin where Schultz is chief engineer at radio station WPRE. Guests hailed from Postville West Union Wadena Luana Fayette Decorah Dubuque Cedar Rapids and Clermont.
Audrey Hackett and Ben A. Schori were married in a Saturday afternoon ceremony at Calmar Lutheran Church. Rev J N Lunde presided over a double ring rite before baskets of white and red gladioli. The bride wore nylonette lace over white taffeta with chapel train and illusion veil. attendants wore white organdy gowns with arm bouquets of red roses. Best man Otis Torkelson. ushers Jim Hackett and Bob Reisner. flower girl Diane Barrett. ring bearer Billy Beck Lom bard.
The wedding of the Calmar high school graduate to an Elgin draftsman was celebrated with a three tier cake and feathered carnations. Out of town guests came from Washington D C, Chicago, Lombard, Northfield, La Crosse, Higin, Monona, West Union, Cedar Rapids, La Porte City, Clermont and Decorah.
Elgin residents recount summer travels to Denver Cheyenne and Los Angeles with relatives and friends. Gatherings include Paul Watters family visits Winthrop gatherings for birthdays and dinners. Welcoming guests feature Ervin and Frieda Etter Tanesville and plusieurs from St Ansgar and Wesley.

Arlington households Don Jennings Joyce and Maxine attended a supper with Leonard Roberts. J P Medberry visitors included Mrs Oak land Probert at Volga.
