Remembering Weddings and Yields From Rural Iowa
Wednesday, Aug 15, Edith Grether and Lloyd Swartley of Fayette wed at the Grether home with Rev. Ph Lauer officiating. They will teach music in LeMars public schools next year. Melvin Olson reports the best oat yield to date from 14 acres east of Clermont, 1,220 bushels for an average of about 87 bushels per acre. Anna Hungerford and Dr Harry Br bees wed at Joseph Bond chapel on the University of Chicago campus with Rev Theo Dons officiating. they will reside in Chicago. Mrs Louis Klingman’s piano pupils, Eva Mee, Alvina Frieden, Viola Berndt, Erma Berndt, Dilis Berndt, and Eileen Evans, gave a recital at the Evans home.

Life Sketch of Mrs Regula Yunker
Mrs Regula Yunker born March 13 1874 in Glarus Switzerland came to the United States in 1907 and married Rudolf Yunker. They lived on a farm near Rock Valley then moved to Beresford and Elgin before his 1944 death. She later resided in Long Beach California passing August 8 1953 at age 78. Interment in Elgin cemetery with pallbearers listed and many relatives near.

Sam Gell obituary details Kansas birth to Iowa migrant farmer
Sam Gell son of Thomas Francis and Clara Maine Gell was born May 17 1879 in a Kansas sod house and died August 12 at his Wadena home. He was the second of nine children with four predecessors, married Hertha Laughren Borwig in 1915, no children, one stepson Frank Borwig Valencia. He suffered a stroke two years prior to death, a second stroke ended his life. He joined the Presbyterian church in 1912. Left wife a stepson three step grandchildren two sisters Edith Gell Hazel Moore two brothers Walter Alden, plus in laws and cousins. Funeral August 14 at Wadena Presbyterian church with interment at Wadena cemetery. Casket bearers listed.

Between 40,000 and 100,000 Iowans gathered at the recreation park in Long Beach California on Saturday August 8 to celebrate the 48th Annual Iowa picnic. Dignitaries included Governor Beardsley former governor Frank Merriam and Long Beach mayor Lyman Sutter. The Long Beach Municipal Orchestra directed by LaBerre performed as the crowd heard the stagecoach arrival said to originate from the Land of the Tall Corn.
