Elgin Echo informs readers of advertising rates per line ten cents with a 30 cent weekly minimum if paid with order. Blind ads cost 50 cents weekly minimum. Card of Thanks and In Memoriam cards priced at one dollar, each up to ten lines. Resolutions and obituaries in poetry charged at regular rates.
The town hall meeting with the mayor and council present approved minutes from the previous session and allowed numerous bills. Accounts paid include General Fund items for runways, repairs, salaries, and utilities, Waterworks Fund charges, Street Construction Fund costs, and various purchases of materials and labor.
The council approved July mileage, kept clerk pay at 100 a month, and issued a building permit for Mrs Margorie Reed. They passed a safety program with Don Gardner as driving education consultant. A letter from Gardner urged citizens to report violators with license numbers to improve driving.
A citizen writes noting most Elgin residents obey traffic rules though a minority, especially Saturday nights, commit dangerous driving. The letter cites examples of drivers failing to stop for certain behaviors, urging better adherence to regulations to protect the community.
Mr and Mrs Forrest Shafter Ruby and Robert returned Friday evening from a trip to the Black Hills and the lands of South Dakota On Sunday they attended the Passion Play at Spearfish From there they visited Devils Tower then the Big Horn Mountains and into Yellowstone National Park Wyoming On the return they traveled the Yellowstone River Valley through the Gallatin Mountain Range and Forest Custer National Battlefield and Monument
A group toured Custer National Forest area in Montana and traveled Thursday to Pierre South Dakota to inspect Lawrence Alleman before visiting the Oahe Dam project on the Missouri River.
Elgin area residents host and visit family across several towns. Don Page and Denver visitors share time with the Howards and related families, with multiple birthdays noted including L. D. and Mark DeSart. Local gatherings extend to Legion events in Waucoma and social visits among the Krueger, Erickson, Mulford, and Wenger households.
