Salutatorian Honors Awarded At Waterloo Nursing Program

Alice Boyer was named salutatorian at commencement exercises on Friday evening August 10 in the McKinstry Junior High auditorium, Waterloo. She posted a 3.46 GPA for the Waterloo School of Practical Nursing year, with a 12 month course completed and eligibility to sit the state board exams in September in Des Moines. Boyer, daughter of Mr and Mrs Vern Boyer of West Union, will join Palmer Memorial Hospital staff in She.

Valley High Football Practice Starts August 23

Dale Fogle informs ECHO that football practice begins August 23 at 4 pm for all junior varsity and varsity players at Valley High. All boys interested should be there on time.

P. V. Sharpshooters Hold Meeting at Metzger Home

The P. V. Sharpshooters met August 6 at Mary Ann and David Metzger home. Members submitted health papers and entry blanks and discussed fair plans. Three guests from Chenoa Illinois, David, Sue, and Sally Harrs attended. Lunch was by Mrs Metzger. Next meeting planned at Jimmy Butikofer's on September 7.

Illyria 4-H Livestock Meetings Recap

Illyria 4-H Livestock Club held meetings at the Illyria Church on July 2 and August 6. W. V. Beaulieu of Indian Head, Sask taught on Canadian 4-H. Randy Miles presided at the August session with fair entries paid and a barbecue lunch provided by the leader.

Mrs. Lillie Mattoon obituary notes Elgin birth and Hill City later life

Mrs. Lillie Steeler Mattoon born in Elgin September 1, 1866, married Dr. L B Mattoon November 14, 1888. He died in 1902. She moved to Hill City South Dakota in 1927 to be with daughter, Mrs. Neil Koevenig, died August 4 at age 95. Funeral held at Muehlethaler in Elgin with burial in family lot. Survived by daughter, two grandsons Eugene Koevenig and Warren Mattoon, granddaughter Mrs George Brewster, other great grandchildren. Last surviving member of the George Stoehr family.

Willing Workers Club Meeting and Social Evening

The Willing Workers Club met Tuesday evening August 7 at Mrs Christine Rypestols home. A social hour was held and Som-A-Set was played. One birthday was observed.
