Becker's brachiopod collection features local fossils from formations from the Platteville to the Devonian. Specimens include Spirifera and Rhynchonella types with varied valve shapes, growth lines, and ribbing. notable finds include a large Spiriferacea near Independence and many shells along Shell River at Rockford Iowa.

Choral Union Rally at Clermont in August
The Choral Union of Decorah Circuit conducts a rally at Clermont Lutheran Church on August 13 at 8 p.m. A 75 member chorus directed by Prof. Carlo A Sperati performs hymns and pieces by Bortniansky Grieg Dickinson and others with Rev G Gunsten and Rev G Gunston as speakers. The group later joins about 300 voices for the August 27 Big Canoe convention with an orchestra and special numbers.

The Elkader Fair outlines a large program to entertain patrons with circus acts by Tucker's Circus including trained ostriches and a magic show by Leo Semb. The Joy Sisters, Parker Rand with Denishawn dancers, Exancheon Marco, Miller’s musical acts, harness racing, Thrill Day with motorcycle stunts, auto collisions, baseball games, bands, and low admission at 25 cents with free entry for children under 14.
