Student Nurse Week runs April 22 to 27 to spark interest in nursing among young adults. The program covers general medical surgical pediatric obstetric and psychiatric nursing, giving students a broad foundation. Entry requires strong science math English and good moral standards. Graduates Eloise Lantz Janice Kemp and Linda Hackmann attend Allen Memorial Hospital Cutheran School of Nursing in Waterloo.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Grimm Hawkeye observed their 60th wedding anniversary on April 16 at their home. Attending from nearby communities were Rev George Breitkreuz Karl Miller Mr and Mrs Tofield Heck and many others including Mrs Lena Wenger Mrs Metta Krueger Mrs Selmer Erickson Mr and Mrs Alifred Jacob Mr and Mrs Carl Hackmann Lena Baumgartner Mrs Rose Baechler Mrs Claude Husinga of Aplington and Mrs Grimm's four sisters. Carl Hackimann and Mrs Paul Stanke attended the Grimms wedding. former residents of the area.
The Tabitha Society met Wednesday April 17 at the Baptist Church. Officers were elected with the following results and new leadership announced.
In West Union a community group announced its officers with Mrs. Leo Lehman taking president, Mrs. Harold Grith as vice president, Mrs. Lester Trautman as secretary, and Mrs. Milton Miller as treasurer.

Regular session notes April 1 1963 with mayor and council. Bills paid include sanitation waterworks street and general funds. Fire truck line and license renewals discussed with Hooker Supply. Special session April 5 1963 addressed street work contracts and future work plans.
Iowa reports show a rising farm accident toll with tractors leading. In 1959 out of 747 accidents, 215 involved tractors about 29 percent, and 9 deaths 64 were tractor related. Tractors cause most fatal tipping events and highway mishaps. 1960 data mirror similar tractor involvement with 307 of 868 accidents.
The report shows 140 machinery mishaps in 1960, up 23 from 1959, with tractors causing 67 deaths or 53.3 percent of fatal yearly fatalities. Forty-one elevator accidents, over half during corn harvest, and corn pickers second to tractors in mishaps. Machinery deaths often involve wagons, corn pickers, and farm trucks.
Keith Kohler and Jo Ann Wilson led a Junior MYF gathering at the Kohlers home Sunday evening with fifteen members and guests, including the Rev. and Mrs. Lee Roy Collins. The lesson centered on deciding right and wrong and lunch followed the meeting.
Bids will be taken May 7 for 13.3 miles of U S 18 work from the Chickasaw County line into West Union in Fayette County. Project plans call widening from 18 and 20 feet to 24 feet with narrow bridges and culverts.
The plan calls for widening the road and resurfacing a segment of WU 8 after excavation. A plain concrete surface will be installed and shoulder work completed.
Fayette County Veterans and Auxiliary met at the Fayette Legion hall on Wednesday April 17 with about 40 members present. A picnic dinner followed and the business meetings were held after.
