The Elgin Echo Dial announces it is entered as second class mail matter in Elgin Fayette County Iowa, effective Sept 1 1891. Resolutions of Respect church society and school notices with admission charges appear at standard advertising rates.
At the last council meeting requests for water service on Pleasant Street were discussed. If enough users are found, mains may extend from Hans Keiser corner to Falb's garage corner. May and June bring school vacations and visits from local residents to the Falb home. A local notice notes spring fashion and a Wancoma broadcast featured Edith Frieden.
Jacob Frieden 77 died March 28. Funeral from Bethel Presbyterian Church West Union with interment in West Union cemetery. Surviving children Lillian Celia George Vern and a foster daughter Eva Mae nine grandchildren and many relatives. Born in Switzerland Feb 12 1876 he came to the U S at 15 and married Rose Meyer in 1902. The family notes appreciation for sympathy. Card of Thanks included.
Kittle S Houg born June 20 1855 in Clayton county died in Charles City March 25 at ninety seven. He lived a long life as a teacher clerk farmer handyman and caretaker for relatives and neighbors across Iowa and Minnesota. He was last of eight brothers and four sisters and leaves many nephews nieces and friends.
Dwarf Essex rape provides a good emergency pasture for hogs and sheep. Using nitrogen fertilizer will increase bromegrass seed production.
The Chase and Eder families of Volga announce the marriage of Helen Trene Chase and Michael Eder at St Paul Lutheran. It was the church’s first wedding in the new building, with Rev. Gebhard officiating. Bridal party included Miss Carol Nickels and Gayle Nickels. The couple plans a two week honeymoon and both pursue future studies and service.
Mrs. Theodore Dons of Sterling Kansas suffered a slight stroke last week and is under home care. The notice was received by Mr. and Mrs. F C Muehnethaler a few days ago with the patient listed as Ern Schori.
The bulletin notes multiple hospital transfers and recoveries. A patient was taken to New Hampton hospital on Saturday, Mrs. Wm. Dennifer moved to Postville hospital Monday, and Mike Adrian returned home after a medical stay in Postville hospital. Lew Graver, a surgical patient in Iowa City, is gradually improving after a skin graft. F C Muehlethaler and Alden Pinneys report Mrs. Pinney at home after hospitalization and recovery.
