The Hardin County Board of Review will hold a series of meetings through the month and into July for property owners to object to valuations. Protests must be written on forms from the assessor or board in the courthouse at Widoara. The aim is fair, equitable valuations among property types, with possible adjustments and surprises as inequalities are discovered. Experts note taxes may not rise solely due to new valuations. any increases reflect higher budgets by taxing entities.

The Eldora Herald owner signed a Wednesday contract with H. W. Sedvert to erect a one story brick structure for a printing and publication office. The item also notes local reunions, school board results, and several residents returning from overseas service with brief community happenings.

State conservation commission to start five lakes this summer as part of a 1949 program expanding recreational waters statewide. Rock Creek Lake in Jasper County will be the largest artificial lake in Iowa at 1,600 acres. other sites include Honey Creek Park, Goode State Park, Nine Eagles State Park, and Cold Springs in Cass County.
Mrs. Ralph Clampitt leaves for North Carolina with her sister-in-law and visitors from California. Bernard Reece welcomed a third son Richard Linn at Eldora Memorial hospital, joining brothers Keith and Earl. Harold Marsh undergoes emergency appendectomy after a car collision near Boone. Beth Clampitt returns from Earlham College and prepares for camp duties near Philadelphia. J. F. Dietz of Waterloo visited with his son-in-law and family last week.
Mrs Reece drove to Waterloo Saturday to take her father home. Mr Dietz is 87 years old.
Dr. and Mrs. W. J. Mack are proud parents of a daughter named Elizabeth Ann born Monday June 6 at Eldora hospital. Mrs. J. A. Himmel and Mr. and Mrs. G. W. The Evangelical United Brethren church observed its annual Birthday and Guest Day on Wednesday of last week with a missionary offering totaling 31 dollars. Wright Thompson will spend two weeks in Ames attending a banking school. Mr and Mrs Wm Hoffman hosted relatives at a dinner for their son Carl Harestad confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran church. A potluck supper at the Male home honored Mrs Male on her 70th birthday with about 50 attending. The Friendly Birthday club met hosted by Mrs Walter Guardt honoring Mrs Roy Houck. The W 8 S C S executive board of the Methodist church met at the president E A Nelson home with twelve present and lunch served.
