Eldora city council streets committee endorses widening 12th street from the bank corner north and 12th avenue from the Congregational church corner west two blocks to create diagonal parking and ease congestion near the courthouse square. Widening paired with a water main project reduces costs and aligns with meters already installed downtown. Additional study continues on 14th avenue west of the square.
Yesterday marked the ordination of Rev. G W Smith, pastor at Steamboat Rock and Eldora, on June 11. The T G Alvord hose team headed to Council Bluffs, tying for first and second with the Chapins. Alvords won the coupling, Chapins won the belt race, Alvords took second. Fifty years ago H W Emery of Marshalltown rented the former Marshall office, with grading begun on a Alden to Britt railway line extension toward the Iowa river crossing, awaiting iron bridge. Forty years ago A P Mason of Union attended the Indianapolis auctioneers' convention. Thomas and Enoch Largon to acquire L F Brown stock. Thirty years ago Dan Byam of Hubbard returned after wintering with the 88th in France, joined by Bert Miller, Clarence Shaner, and Gus Ruppelt.
Steamboat Rock residents return from overseas. Lieut. Walter Hanson arrives at Union after serving overseas since August. Twenty years ago Louis Darzes installed an electric orchestriphone at about 1600 dollars during Eureka’s third anniversary celebration. Father T J Dowling plans to sail for Europe June 22 as conductor for a touring party. Fifty five Eldora musicians begin forming a community orchestra under W G Leslie. Ten years ago Lucile Walters of Vidora was Hardin county 4 H champion in well groomed contest. John A Wood moves auto business to new West Edgington garage. Thirty two boys at the training school graduate high school.

Installations will be with I O O F in July. Bonnie Evans of Marshalltown visiting relatives. Open house marks Isaac Bucy fiftieth wedding anniversary June 19. Sunday school at 10 a m marks the start as Bible school runs June 20 to 24 under Rev. McKinley with Miss Pittman and Marilyn Eggleston assisting. A Friday program will conclude the week. Local families and neighbors attend picnics, baptist services, and birthday gatherings related to the event and surrounding church activities.
Community groups met at Mrs Mildred Weaver home for Methodist Ladies Aid with new officers installed by Mrs C C Winter. Fire at Glen Green Dehydrating plant near Whitten damaged hay and mill feed, 350 gallons water used. Various local visits, meetings, and club activities noted including Kensington, Study, and Heartstone clubs. week’s social and family news.
Eldora Herald Ledger notes Friday evening gathering at Dale Meeker home with 47 present. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. J L Sheldon Mrs Otto Bahr and Mrs W F Ziesman. Rough Woods Cemetery society met at Mrs Mary Campbell's home in Gifford Thursday afternoon. Lunch was served and Mary Ziesman and Marian Lee joined Monday supper guests Connie and Linda Meeker.
Local notes recount visits among area families including Dooley, Flett, Ragans, Reicks, Waldo, and others across Renwick, Iowa Falls, Alden, Buckeye, Zearing, and Eldora. The Lawn Hill Ladies Aid met June 8 at Mrs. Bob Smith’s home with 21 members, devotionals led by Mrs. Wilma Clingerman, followed by a social lunch. next gathering will be at Carrie Waldo’s and Elizabeth Dooley's.
