Rural tax levies drop despite higher valuations
Otis Rash reports 1949 rural millage declines while assessed values rise, with a 10 percent cut on agricultural land values from the state equalization. A blanket 30 percent cut on buildings was applied, and township levies in south Hardin vary, with Eldora and Clay districts showing valuation increases. Taxpayers face different outcomes depending on exemptions and homestead credits as the county auditor and assessor finalize assessments and rush tax receipts for early payment.
