The attorney general ruled the state board of control lacks authority to grant land use for an airport. only the legislature can act, not meeting until 1951. Interim committee may offer a weak chance, but delay risks two years without service and jeopardizes future plans. Eldorans urged to act now.
Eugene Meyer, chairman of the Washington Post, told a Senate subcommittee that the reconstruction finance corporation was meant as a temporary crisis agency and should be liquidated soon. He opposed an administration bill to raise RFC lending authority from 2 billion to 6 billion and extend loan maturities beyond 10 years. Meyer, a former Federal Reserve governor, helped draft the act initiating the RFC. He noted ample credit and that much RFC work could be handled by banks and private lenders.
The death of writer Margaret Mitchell after being struck by a driver with over two dozen traffic violations highlights lax law enforcement. The piece urges accountability for those who kept the driver’s license, notes Iowa’s tougher stance, and calls for public vigilance against inattentive or dangerous drivers to prevent further tragedies.

Pine Lake golf course reports several holes in one by Moser and Wisner. George Potgeter announces purchase of Juice Coal and Grain Co. Eldora native James Cameron Jr joins SEC legal staff. Kenneth Clatterbaugh takes up duties as local high school coach. Margaret Kelsey of Iowa Falls named county health champion heading to state fair.

She filed an entry including apple pickles cucumber peach peas and peach conserve in the culinary show competing for part of 1068 dollars in cash prizes at the exposition in Des Moines.
A 1942 Hudson driven by Ives Allbee overturned on the new grade south of Cleves last Thursday around 7 am. Mrs. Ralph Allbee and Dean Ruby rode with him when loose gravel caused loss of control. The car was damaged to about 400 to 900 dollars, but the three occupants escaped uninjured while the vehicle returned to its wheels. Mrs. Allbee was taking the boys to their construction work on the new Cleves elevator.
Paul Starn, 21, Eldora laborer, held on district court charge of malicious threats to ex wife. He admitted writing letters to Mrs. Della Froning demanding 10000 dollars. Cashway Supermarket opens in Eldora under Mathew Bucksbaum. Rainfall 0.21 inch. polio epidemic led to cancellation of the Iowa Falls festival.
