Centennial Center proposal fails in Edmonds vote
Proposition 1 for a $19 million two theater arts complex on Edmonds Community College campus loses by about 2,000 votes. Unofficial totals show 7,950 in favor and 6,016 against, well short of the 60 percent needed. Chris Galloway of South County Cultural Arts District cites limited outreach and voter understanding as factors. He notes a tax increase of about 46 cents per $1,000 assessed value would have funded maintenance. The plan included an 1,800 seat main hall and a 450 seat secondary hall on a 10-acre site. college use would cover maintenance.
