A Snohomish County man was charged with three counts of arson for fires set at 11100 Kulshan Road Woodway on August 27 August 30 and September 5. Police say a flammable liquid was used and the homeowner extinguished the third fire. The suspect was held for a mental evaluation before charges.
Tomorrow at noon the sixth annual Snohomish County Public Safety Show opens at Alderwood Mall with displays by 14 agencies. Sheriff Bob Dodge will award service honors to John Paddock, Wesley Short, and Albion Albright. Paddock helped create SNOCOM and led Lynnwood Police to retirement after 25 years. Short retired as Fire District 1 chief after 30 years and expanded EMS programs. Albright served 23 years as District 1 fire commissioner and was active in Rotary Masonry and Democratic circles.
The Edmonds Council of Concerned Citizens voted at their annual meeting to give $100 to the Edmonds Memorial Tree Fund in memory of J.W. Bill Crow a longtime civic leader and original ECCC member celebrated as a “Citizen for the Citizens.”
Karen Remick survived a head on crash while her children were unbelted. She joined a two border crossing caravan in St Louis to promote seat belt use. About 200 survivors from 26 states traveled north from Mexico and south from Canada, meeting to urge buckle up laws and awareness.
Edmonds City Council ends privatization talks for the secondary sewage plant. A 5-1 vote keeps a city owned and operated facility. Mayor Naughton breaks a tie to keep the plant at the present site on 2nd Avenue South and Dayton Street.
Sandra Staats was sworn in to fill the vacant Brier City Council seat after Melissa Keough resigned to move to Edmonds. The 4-to-2 appointment vote included Gene Wright Jim Barbour Mimi Terwilliger and Dorothee Sauffer voting for Staats. Staats 31 is vice president of Astro Painting in Mountlake Terrace.
