Parents seek more traffic controls after crosswalk crash

The parents of two 13 year old girls injured in a Mountlake Terrace crosswalk demand stricter traffic controls. Megan Ayers and Suzanne Kelly were hit by a Mazda pickup on January 22 near Circle K while crossing to catch a school bus. Megan was released January 27. Suzanne remains hospitalized in stable condition. The driver, David McNeil, was cited for failure to yield to pedestrians.

Fire Rescue Edmonds Division Fireboat Rejoins Coast Guard Gift

After a year in repair, the 26 foot harbor patrol boat FRED debuts with a new name and yellow paint. Gifted by the Coast Guard in 1984, it proved unstable and retired after six years. The city funded repairs worth about 27 thousand dollars and plans ongoing operation with a trained crew and a diver team. Mayor Larry Naughton and community members praised the project while noting future equipment needs and a sought after Hubbard Trust grant.

Edmonds teacher finalist recalls Challenger tragedy

Michael Jones an Edmonds resident and Kellogg Junior High teacher was among the 112 state finalists in the Teacher in Space program. He said space exploration should continue despite the explosion. Jones spoke with reporters after Cape Canaveral, listened to radio coverage, and later collaborated on a song tribute with Seattle musician Matthew Gonder.
