District 15 voters approve a $72 million capital construction bond to fix 5000 building deficiencies and fund roofing repairs aided by an $18 million operating levy. Results show 8243 yes 3158 no about 72 percent in favor. Tax impact about 1.37 per 1000 assessed value, or 82 per year on a 60 000 home.
Edmonds Port Commissioner John Dodge was fined 35 by the Public Disclosure Commission after a hearing on January 30 for reporting lapses in his 1985 campaign. He spent 3015, exceeded the pledged 500 limit, with signals of illness and misreading forms cited by PDC officials. Dodge defeated incumbent Gordon Maxwell by 448 votes, 1991 to 1543.
Neighbors at a public hearing criticized a Mahikari Church project on a three-fourths acre parcel at 24128 54th Ave. W. The Terrace City Council reviews a rezone and site plan for the site, which once housed a mink farm before a single-family home stood there.
Edmonds Chamber of Commerce will honor Rosalynn Sumners and three Washington natives—Mike Lettengarver Heidi Broback and Peggy Sinner—at a February 27 luncheon. Mayor Naughton to issue a commendation. That evening Edmonds Night at the Dome marks Disney World on Ice at Tacoma Dome with $6 tickets and a $4.50 bus option.
In Edmonds Talbot Park a dentist, Dr. John Lagos, lost a bid to operate a home office after a unanimous City Council vote. Lagos appealed a prior hearing examiner denial citing residential incompatibility of dental equipment and expected traffic and noise. The council upheld the examiner's ruling 5 to 0 after debate and letters to the president prompted a temporary recusal.
