Eastern hills area residents recount the final weeks of freedom before the long march back to classrooms. Friends share summer memories and stories as routines resume.
Council discusses forming a volunteer recreation commission before hiring a part time director to organize programs for all ages in Fairfax. The plan includes oversight of facilities, permits, and winter and summer activities, with the director reporting to the mayor and a call for community volunteers.
The Big Dance returns to Ault Park Friday and Saturday August 23 and 24 with Charlie Kehrer’s 13 piece orchestra and Ill Hauser’s 14 piece band. Tickets $10 couple $6 single available at Ticketron Shillitos Sears Community Ticket Office and at park entrances. Proceeds benefit Ault Park with nostalgically themed events and commemorative posters.
Republican state representative candidate Larry J. Williams announces James A. Rhodes former Ohio governor and George C. Smith candidate for attorney general will attend a 12 3 p m rally on December 24 at Hyde Park Plaza co sponsored by Williams For State Representatives Committee and Cincinnati 4th Ward Republican Club with all Hamilton County candidates also appearing.
Queen City Metro marked its first anniversary with a Fountain Square observance and reported a 41 percent rise in ridership. Ed Harvey, the general manager, noted ongoing route information is available by phone.

Third Western Realty of Liberal Markets filed for a zoning variance hearing with the Cincinnati Zoning Board after the building department denied the request to develop the Mudhole site at 3361 Erie. The hearing is expected in September.
Cincinnati public works panel votes to form a citizens committee to study the viaduct at AA Rd and a toll-bridge option proposed by Davi Mann. The city manager’s report on replacing or tearing down the bridge is expected soon, with residents divided on the need for a crossing.
Mrs Dennis Eversole advertised her pool table in Instant Action want ads after her CSNI classifieds job. A buyer called, paid $90 cash, and arrived with three friends in a pickup truck to pick it up sight unseen.
Roy Moon of Oakley travels to Nairobi Kenya with eighteen Junior Zoologists Club members from the Cincinnati Zoo. The group, guided by Barry Wakeman, will study Samburu Naivasha Nakuru and Masai Mara reserves before returning to Cincinnati September 1. Moon prepares by immunizations and gear, aims to become a zookeeper, and reports the trip as educational with Swahili exposure and Kenyan talks.
