Funeral Rites Set For Wm Lee Stapleton
William Lee Stapleton son of Mr and Mrs Hen Stapleton Jr and Eagle Lake native will be buried with military honors after dying of injuries in a South Pacific naval battle October 16 1942. Funeral services are Saturday at 2:30 pm from the family home with burial at Lakeside Cemetery. He enlisted July 16 1941 leaving Eagle Lake High School and served in the Pacific, the only child.

The W. Cheery-St Perry Post held an active meeting to finalize plans for an anniversary party for Legionnaires and their guests. The event will be at Hi Way Inn in Altair on Friday, March 16, with an adequate program. Chief Petty Officer Mizell spoke on Navy recruitment opportunities. Two delegates will attend the Texas Beach and Pool meeting in Austin. The Post will continue two meetings each month on the first and third Tuesdays, with plans for a business and a social meeting as well.

The Wm. Lee Stapleton Post Veterans of Foreign Wars will meet at eight o’clock on Tuesday night in March at the Mone Thomas County place on Highway 904 near Eagle Lake. Bids Open For Fourteen County Dump Trucks
Colorado County commissioners will open bids at 1006 am Friday in Columbus for fourteen tracks. Plans call for five two ton dump trucks at Precinct No 4 and two ton trucks, one pickup, and one chassis at Precinct No 1. Precinct 3 will buy three two ton dump trucks. Minor repairs at the county poor farm buildings east of Columbus are complete, with plans for a permanent building ready pending court authority.

A man in a Colorado County town is linked to nine forged checks totaling just over 90 dollars each. The passes occurred Thursday to Saturday at Eagle Lake Columbus Luling La Grange Flatonia and Yoakum. Checks stolen from Sheridan official Bohrman were drawn on Schulenburg First National Bank to pay a Schulenburg contractor for gym work. Police say arrest followed timely investigative work by Chief Deputy Sheriff Wheeler. An identification display in Columbus used a security card from R. W. King.
