Secret Marriage announced by Morris couple in city

Mr and Mrs Morris of this city announce the marriage of their daughter Carrie to S Eubanks in Asheville on August 15 1915 They will reside at Annette Avenue Durham on September 1 The couple kept the marriage secret for some time Until families learned of it. A large baptism service followed at New Hope Creek with 21 persons baptized by Rev J F McDuffie of Mt Moriah church after a protracted meeting at his church last month. A mile long procession formed after the service with buggies carriages wagons and pedestrians. The grove and church were crowded with vehicles and attendees. The Rev McDuffie delivered a fine sermon and has labored faithfully this year with gratifying results.

County to bid on Roxboro road extension to county line

county commissioners this week asked for bids to build an eleven mile Roxboro road extension to the county line. bids due at once with adjourned session to let the contract on the 24th. sheriff Harvard bond set at 80000 dollars and jurors for sept term listed. efforts to form a state baseball league include Ernest Landgraf visiting Durham to gauge local support for a team.

M. W. Thompson Dead After Laudanum Drunk Near Funston

M W Thompson found dead near Funston siding on the Southern Railway. identified as Edgemont cotton mill worker with wife and six children visiting Hillsboro. Huey Campbell drank laudanum at Durham Marble Works but revived after stomach pumping. he is a well known local employee with no stated motive.

Death of Mrs. W. B. Dunn at 29 in Durham

Mrs. W. B. Dunn died after a lingering illness at her Vickers Avenue home last Wednesday around noon. She was 29, lived in Durham over a year with husband from Rocky Mount, and left a husband, mother, three sisters and two brothers. Funeral held at home Thursday afternoon with Rev. W. C. Barrett officiating, burial in Maplewood cemetery.

Memorial window in Methodist church tribute to Carr parents

General J. S. Carr of Durham installed a Memorial window in the Methodist church honoring his father John Wesley Carr and his mother Elizabeth Parnell Carr. The central Ruth and Boaz wheat-field scene is praised as very pretty and costly, crafted by artist V S M Meldrum of York, Pennsylvania.
