J F Pleasants who was appointed deputy after losing the township constable race has resigned from the deputy sheriff post. The move takes effect last week as Sheriff Harward limited his duties to East Durham and indicated a successor for East Durham will be announced in a few days.

Death Claims Eli Allen in Patterson Township
Eli Allen aged about 60 to 65 died at his home in Patterson township near Durham from stomach cancer after several days of illness. He left a wife and ten children, five daughters and five sons named Emma, Sarah, James, Allen, and Curtis Yates among others. The remains were taken to Granville county for interment.

L. E. Watson of South Lebanon Tennessee visited Durham on a trip to relatives then planned to attend the Jamestown Exposition. He had not seen the area in years and brought back a childhood keepsake a thimble his mother used to sew his clothes.
