Farmers begin corn and tobacco land prep on Route 2 as beds burn. Local births deaths and illnesses are reported along with church notes, marriages, and upcoming Union Grove meetings.
In East Durham J C Yates was bound over to the superior court on a whiskey selling charge after the magistrates court week. Bond set at $200 and posted, with defense seeking discharge on double jeopardy grounds. Also, Arkes Thompson recaptured after escaping Orange county jail, to face grand jury action in Hillsboro.
A death toll stretches through Durham with multiple burials and services. Albert M. Craig a 20 year old streetcar conductor died after appendicitis and operation at Watts Hospital. Mary M. Tilley 68 died at home from inflammation of the kidneys. Loula Griffes 65 died at Watts Hospital from severe cold. Three weddings occur in Durham with Ira and Samuel Pickett Clara Tatum and R L Bellamy Grace Edwards and Robert Fulton Perry.
Mrs. Thomas summoned Thursday to answer questions linked to a claim against seven Durham merchants for seizing her household effects in Baltimore. A hearing was set for the 26th. three civil cases are listed for March term. An Henry Institute entertainment will support local children with cake proceeds aiding Impecotemente.
